When I was growing up my dad wasn't around. I saw him occasionally, but it wasn't all that. When I was about 18, I never saw it as a big deal. It wasn't til now, in my late 20's, that I realise how important having a dad around is. I was lucky enough to have a very strong mum who was able to give me a equally strong moral compass. We were poor, dirt poor, but we were loved. A lot of young people are unfortunately growing up without ever truly knowing that someone loves them, and when a gang starts giving them encouragement and sense of belonging they jump at the chance, simply because they confuse that sense of belonging with a sense of being loved.

Spurs fan here. What Arsenal do for the community is so strong. Every year they do loads with Crisis at Christmas hosting football tournaments for homeless people, as well as inviting them to games. Keep it up!

@@Sam-ng3of please we shouldnt conflate issues or try and detract from this noble effort. Whilst what is happening to Uighurs in China is despicable, there are different ways to approach that matter. It is regrettable the club could not back Ozil but maybe understandable. Nor was it the sole responsibility of Arsenal, the impact of those posts affected the whole premier league. Do you think it was coincidence cctv defaulted on their payments for tv rights shortly after the messages ? Why were the other nineteen epl clubs completely silent ? There are more effective ways to protest and make the desired impact ! One has to bear in mind who one is dealing with, China stopped showing Arsenal game becauses they were offended by one player's criticism. Is that proportionate ? Of course we cant be silent but let your means achieve its purpose !

I don't understand why, but watching that made me cry. I don't know why is it because of the sadness for so many wasted lives or the love of the club i support, I don't know but please if just one person could listen to the message and see the futility in gang culture and the danger in knives. I agree they should never make or sell the shirts but raffle off the match worn shirts to raise money for the victims of knife crime.

@Cian MacGana thankfully that's not my world, but these children that pretend to be big men carrying knives need to be educated and given hope that there is more out there for them and to escape that environment, it's not easy and I understand the reason to carry a knife out of protection the irony is that by carrying a knife you actually are in more danger as before a disagreement would end in a punch now it can end in death. It's a shame that many of these young people can't see they are being used by the bigger fish that are making money out of them. The only solution is education and hope and the impact of a young star like Saka or ESR might give them a different view to life rather than being preached to by someone that they can't relate to. If this gimmick saves one child it's worth it and I understand cynicism but it's better than giving up. I appreciate the only reason people care about these lives is it now can affect tourism in London but if the end saves lives does the motivation matter.
