Meerabai's story is certainly true. No doubt about it. Sri Jiva Goswami said he doesn't meet with any ladies because he is a renunciate. To which Meerabai replied, "Oh I thought there was only one Purush in Vrndavan. All others are females. Today I know there also exists another Purush." Hearing this epic reply, Jiva Goswami at once realised Meerabai was no ordinary woman but Krishna's Gopi. He at once realised his fault and ran to fall at her feet and ask for forgiveness. Meerabai had indirectly pointed out that his identification to the body showed he was still under the influence of the false ego.

Very black and white pictures being drawn here. All traffic rules, or no traffic rules? Sex only for begetting children, or promiscuity? There are almost no rules that are good to follow ALL of the time. It is better to know the rules and apply situational ethics rather than rule ethics.

I agree with you, and I think that’s where we go wrong. We become dogmatic when following the rules and then we lose the essence of Bhakti.
