I'd recommend more permanent tubing (like PVC) from the back filter to the tankless water heater, and between the water heater and the valve manifold. Those pressurized areas will be most likely to break.

Exited about watching things unfold day to day like this. I love the diy part of your channel, but I also like listening to you feel out about your hobby. This feels like the best of both worlds.
@alexs13826 жыл бұрын
@The king of DIY love the idea. Basing everything on time seems a bit scary. Back when I had my larger setup, I just used float switches to control water level. One float kicked everything on, one kicked everything off and the last was the 'oh s**t' sensor. and they're relatively cheap. You can pick up a 5pack on ebay for $15. And anyone with a programming background could hook you down with an arduino that kicks everything on and off with some real basic relays. I've been thinking of putting together a scalable aquarium managing system that would allow for full control of lights, pumps, heaters, waterchanges etc, with a raspberry pi, arduino mega, and the likes and making it open source so people like you who give so much to the hobby could get a little help.
@allicesmashes6 жыл бұрын
Joey, install a thermostatic mixer. That way you have a better way to control the feed in temperature. Also if you use float switches you should be able to send a signal to shut the feed in off at a given point/volume.

For safety i would place a water sensor on the floor near the sumps so if for whatever reason you get a blockage which causes a flood situation it will trigger the rain sensor input and stop the water flow

You definitely need to have some redundancy built into the system sensors on the floor to detect any leaks to shut the system off I would hard plumb it with pvc looks nicer and is more durable you need to make sure that the wife and kids know how to shut off in case of emergency when you are not at home also I would have something built it that would shut the water heater off in case it exceeds the temperature don’t want to boil the fish also a battery backup system and for the drain make sure it insulated so it won’t freeze and clog

Been having a think on this. Time is not really the best as you have pointed out but the control unit you have contains all the logic you need it to so it's much smarter. If you put electronic values on the 50% sump drain you could do the following zone 1 turns on the rack 1 drain, then zone 1 turns off and zone 2 turns on the fill to rack 1 and the drain to rack 2 and so and so forth. Sensor wise you could go as complicated or sophicitated as you want. That wire link in the box is probably space for a rain sensor so if you break the link the system shuts down. You could meter the water or use float switches if you didn't mind a bit more electronics.
@darinwebb39626 жыл бұрын
You can get rain sensors for the box and mount them on the tank or floor and if it over fills it will automatically shut the cylenoids off

Love the videos. The new water change system is amazing. One comment though - It's usually a good idea to put a micron filter in front of a carbon filter because they are very easy to clog. You may also want to consider putting the controller on a battery backup so that you still have control if power goes if you don't have a generator. Keep up the good work with your content.

Joey, why not just run the overflow drains only for the drainage? Instead of having the valves open to drain the water, just have it fill and let the excess drain over the overflow in the sump and out. Eliminates the need for valves on the drain lines completely
@burninrubba656 жыл бұрын
You should invest in a wirsboro PEX tool. They have all sorts of fittings you can buy from 90s Ts to a multiple outlet manifold The tubing is cheaper then that rv hose and you can use it for many uses. I just used it as airline so I could move my compressor to the back of my shop and have the air hose spool at the front

You really have to run a test so that you know how much water goes in and out to make your desired water change, maybe on an 80psi for 2 120 gal takes 2 hours or maybe 1.5h. You still have to turn the main water valve on which will need a timer or sensor as well. Need to be safe to prevent any flooding etc. Nice set up. For the tubes on the ceiling, maybe just put a box type cover so no need to destroy your nice ceiling.
@deanwinchester71796 жыл бұрын
If your well is putting out 80+ PSI you may need to adjust or replace your pressure switch. Household wells are normally set to output 50-60 PSI max.
@kylehiggs97796 жыл бұрын
try getting those metal cable racks it's like a metal shelf you see in the cealing of the shopping centers that run all there cables. perfect for your water pipes and it will help support the weight and keep them straight so you run it up the wall and hang it on the ceiling through to the fish tanks. if it can handle weight of heavy cable it should be perfect for your set up

For someone who has a municipal chlorinated water source, I doubt the carbon-based water filter will be adequate. Multiple filters in series could be a solution. Also, closely monitor the flow out of the filter, as this may change as it accumulates minute particles over time. Since the system is measuring water by time and not volume, any restriction in the filter will change the volume of water going through the system for a set period of time. Closely monitor volumes right after you change the filter.

So at it's best it's a semi-automatic system. But I think that's really your only option with the tanks tied together with the only available hole. Unless of course you drill all of the tanks with another overflow. I know your talking about doing it remotely and such but man what a risk without emergency overflows!
