Most UK household light switches do not have a neutral and most smart light switches require a neutral. Thankfully, no neutral smart light switchs are now becoming more widely available.

Hi, after watching this video , i assume that your switch doesn't have a neutral wire. My question is, is it safe to connect 2 live wires together into the same L ? And what is this 2 live wires are actually for ? To my understanding , only 1 live wire is enough to be connected to L. So what's the other Live wire for? Tia.

Hi great vid just also viewed the 1 gang clip to, just wanted to ask with a 2 gang switch- you can name each one for example sake lets call 1 switch A and the and the other B. Alexa will recognise to say Alexa turn off A and Alexa turn off B. Thats 2 commands. Can you then assign a possible 3rd name (example C) to turn on/off both A & B? So command would go alexa turn off C and they both go off? Apologies if ive made this more compex than what is needs to be

Hi thanks for the video it was explained clearly and concisely I just have a question about my experience and if you have a solution. I followed your instructions exactly and even had to change the LIVE switch wires around just like you because the switch wouldn't turn on the first time around. After doing so the buttons illuminated and were flashing ready to be set up but unfortunately when I pressed the button there was a loud crack and my consumer unit tripped out and smoke started to come out of the smart switch, I have the same setup with a ceiling light and two wall lights some am not sure why this would happen. Also, the earth wires are connected to the back box in the wall so all earthing should be all catered for can you help please?

You may encounter problems if you have a virtual private network (VPN) - now standard on iPhones or an app such as AVG. I think the VPN on the iPhone is okay, and unlikely to cause connection issues but apps such as AVG may cause connection problems. If you do have problems, switch it off in settings then connect your smart devices. Once connected you can switch on your VPN.

@Frankie Hannon I bought a 2 gang switch from Amazon UK a few days ago - it can be wired with or without neutral. Yagusmart Wifi Smart Wall Light Switch. If you don't have a neutral you may need to install a 100 micro farad capacitor (supplied with the switch) across the input / output terminals of ONE of the lights to prevent flicker.

Glad the video helped. The capacitor is only needed if you get flickering. It depends on the light fitment and bulbs. If it's a modern non dimmable bulb, the majority of the time, the capacitor isn't required.
