I am an 83 year old, American woman who very recently reverted to Islam, and for many of the same reasons Sheika Burkatulla mentioned here. Although I am happy to cover my head, I can't imagine wearing a full hijab, as I find it oppressive. As a human being, I believe it is necessary and desirable to connect with others and we do that through facial expressions as well as with our speech. Further, as a licensed psychotherapist in my professional life, now retired, the hijab would been impediment to meaningful connection with my patients. Still, I'm very new and have much to learn and appreciate the viewpoints presented here.

Just for clarification sister, wearing the hijab doesn't entail covering your face. The basic hijab only covers the hair and the chest. What shaikha Fatima is weraing is a "niqab" which is a level above hijab but isn't mandatory. You can still see a woman's face with her hijab.

Sahih al-Bukhari 4788 I used to look down upon those ladies who had given themselves to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and I used to say, "Can a lady give herself (to a man)?" But when Allah revealed: "You (O Muhammad) can postpone (the turn of) whom you will of them (your wives), and you may receive any of them whom you will; and there is no blame on you if you invite one whose turn you have set aside (temporarily).' (33.51) I said (to the Prophet), "I feel that your Lord hastens in fulfilling your wishes and desires."

Sahih Muslim 1406 d Sabra al-Juhani reported on the authority of his father that while he was with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) he said: O people, I had permitted you to contract temporary marriage with women, but Allah has forbidden it (now) until the Day of Resurrection. So he who has any (woman with this type of marriage contract) he should let her off, and do not take back anything you have given to them (as dower).

1445 years after the emigration from Mecca, Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) outlined the position of women in Islam in His final sermon as quoted here: "O People it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well never to be unchaste." He(pbuh) spoke of the rights of women over their husbands at a time prior to which women had no rights and were badly treated. Girl children were seen as undesirable and were sometimes even buried at birth. It must be this honourable position of the woman in Islam that some women have found attractive, that is why they are reverting to Islam in droves.

Through this forum, I would request Sister Sheikah Fatima Barkatulla and other many Muslim women and men scholars to share their views on the restrictions on Women's education by Taliban Regeim in Afghanistan for about two years now. There has to be a solution to this problem. Why a ruler could restrict women's rights to education, more importantly when all of these women are Muslim. I am a god-fearing Muslim and strongly feel that the restriction on women's education in Afghanistan is creating a very bad image of Islam in the world and negating all rights Allah has given to women. I suggest that Muslim scholars like you engage with Afghan Taliban decision-makers are engage them in some sort of dialogue to peacefully resolve this long pending issue. I am sure this will be a big service and support to protect the rights of Muslim women in Afghanistan. If Muslim scholars do not come forward and engage with Taliba Regeim, the Western establishment-funded non-Muslim NGOs and liberal-atheists will come forward and fully exploit this issue against Muslims and Islam as an oppressed religion.

those make up their own rules, islam does support the idea of women learning, yes it has to be met with certain rules but just restricting women from learning is against islam teachings.
