I don’t really know the plot of the musical, so I don’t know if it’s actually a sad song or not, but I got a twist in my gut because her voice hurt me so much. Especially “We were angels once, don’t you remember”, idk, something about it just hurts. Anyway, great work, this is beautiful.

To put it simply, this song takes place after the character singing (Natasha) has visited her soon-to-be in-laws, who pretty much turn her down. In this song, she's reflecting on her love for her fiancée, Andrey, who is away fighting in a war. Still, she is unwilling to let him go. ...Well, at this point in the musical, anyway...
