This is an uncomfortable truth that many don't want to discuss. My little brother used to ride the bus to school and he said every morning things were nice and peaceful on the bus until they stopped at the government housing to pick up the kids there. He said literally every single one was black and they would dance and shimmy onto the busy all while yelling and causing problems for everyone else. They would throw things and run up and down the bus smacking kids on the top of the heads with papers. There are serious cultural issues in the black community and if you mention them at all and you're not black, be prepared to be labeled a racist.

My friend taught at a school that was predominately black. He was a contract employee for a month. At the end of his term they offered him a full time position. He turned it down because of how bad the kids were. And while you can always blame the kids, ultimately it's the parents who are at fault. He said in some cases the parents behavior was even worse than the shit head kids he taught.

I was the only asian american in a black school that came from an upper middle class family. I also had the priviledge of going to a private college prep school. I moved and went to a black school it was a night and day difference. Fights everyday, kids playing craps in history, girls solicitating for cigs, smoking in the bathroom, 1 out of 10 girls pregnant, kids selling their food stamps, no books, no homework, just drilling kids to take tests. I was on the honor roll without doing a single day of homework or studying. Literally what the fuck.

As soon as they acclimate to the American culture, they seek other teaching positions in other states who pay more & have better caliber students than the blighted schools that they were originally assigned. In 8th grade I once had this spanish class for beginners, where 7th and 8th graders were mixed. About two fifths of the students were black in that class, but they were wild as hell. They'd yell across the classroom, throw stuff and sometimes even get physical. Although, when the teacher interrupted them and for example, told one of them to get out the classroom, they'd go batshit crazy pulling out the racism card and yelling that they didn't do anything, asking for their peers to back them up. I didn't learn shit cause of them that year.

Is it unreasonable not to want to teach in a black school? The first school in which I taught was majority black. It was a chaotic, disorderly environment, in which the kids would get up in the middle of class and start dancing and doing chants. The second school I worked at had a significant black minority (around 40%), and they were outright hostile, disrespectful, and savage-like. When you were trying to teach them something, they would carry on loud conversations across the class and cause problems. One got up in my face like he was going to fight me, all because I called out his misbehavior. Schools that are majority black have a high turnover rate (around 25-50% of the faculty are gone within three years. Around 80% are gone within seven years). The main reason for this turnover has to do with the disorderly conduct of black students. Many are simply uneducable because they do not care, are apathetic, are only interested in talking, are not respectful of the rights of others, etc. My third school, and the one I am currently at, is around 80% white, and only about seven percent black. It has been like night and day from the previous two schools. You can actually teach the kids. They listen. They aren't busy yelling across the classroom. Many actually want to learn. This is not to say that it is perfect. There is a small percentage of disorderly students, as there is in all schools, but it is a fraction of what I experienced in the previous school.

I had a friend who thought in a black elementary school for several years until she realized, her language was affected ; she started to talk like the kids. That is when she quit. They also would hide from her, in closets or anywhere, so they would not be available to learn ! She really tried ! but her sanity was at risk !

I taught in an inner city barrio/ghetto school district (yes, the entire district). The district imported Philippine teachers--and they didn't last a year. In Philippine schools, students are taught RESPECT for teachers, property, and the education process. That is decidedly lacking in ghetto/barrio schools. And, since Arne Duncan--Obama's Black Secretary of Education--has effectively rewritten the Ed Codes so that acceptable social behavior is taught and aberrant behavior has consequences, children of color cannot be suspended or expelled for Ed Code violations (which equate to felonies in the adult world). So, the b*st*rds throw desks, chairs, books, etc. at teachers, start fistfights with their peers, and do their damnedest to disrupt the education process--all without any real consequences. I retired after 25 years of dealing with spineless administrators, and the groups that foment accptance of this thug behavior such as the ACLU. NO ONE in their right mind teaches in those schools.

The school system and the union hated my opinions because I was one of those kids who was wasting my time in public school. I eventually took up my cat's challenge and became a teacher. We kicked ass! The kids who weren't careful even learned something. I never gave a class that I was ashamed of. I retired when it was clear that RISE was designed to ensure that no kid ever got a legitimate education again. I knew very few public school teachers that sent their own kids to public school.

I was a teacher for almost 27 years and every predominately black school I taught as was a nightmare; crowd control and staying safe, not education was my top priority. The students were loud, inattentive, apathetic (about education) and aggressive. In many instances I feared for my safety; there were a large percentage of very hostile students; male and female, that would become threatening very quickly. Over the course of my career, if I was transferred to a predominantly black school I would start the paperwork for transfer as soon as possible, this was common practice; no one (who was really a committed teacher) stayed at theses schools any longer than they had to. Only the "deadwood" remained. The last assignment I had was at a school that was 92% black, I literally didn't make it through the year; I took an early retirement. I felt one of three things would happen if I stayed in that position; I would have a heart attack, I would suffer a nervous breakdown, or I would be severely injured by one of the students. The year after I left there was a shooting in the parking lot of the school; both victim and perpetrator were students there. The shooter was a student I had in one of my classes.

I know a 1st grade teacher at a school that was once predominantly white but over the last 10 to 12 years has become 95% Black and Hispanic. This was her last year. She had to give it up because the kids each year became more and more out of control. She says they have no respect for teachers and do what the hell they want. If they are sent to the office for discipline they usually don't get it because the kids go home and tell their parents. The parents then come to the school raising hell and call the teachers racist. Some get violent and threaten the teachers. The school is losing just about all the white teachers they had. Some are going to teach in private schools, some are retiring early and some are just getting the hell out of a no win situation.

I got close to a teacher in my high school and she said that she only works for private schools now because she got beat up, called names and stolen from in public and charter schools. I went to a mostly black high school and I tell you I didn't learn a damn thing. Kids fighting the teacher or they would always be talking through the entire class while the teacher was trying to teach, fighting in class, other kids from other classes came to interrupt the class to talk about smoking weed. I swear it affected me a lot because when I went to college it was hard to keep up with a lot of things that I should've known but thanks to the high school that I was in, I learned nothing. It's not the teachers that are bad, I knew some of them were trying and I could see how they just gave up throughout the years, I tried to transfer many times but they wouldn't let me because I didn't have a valid excuse ( no joke ). At the end of every class, all I learned was who was going to fight that day, where the kids were going to smoke weed, who got jumped or shot at, who got in trouble with the police and what girl they had sex with the day before. You start to get used to it after some time, you lose all motivation and just start to not care like they do.

One were students that actually want to learn go and another where the loser students go and we try to get them at least learn to read and write on a grade school level. There is a kind of system like that in Ireland.... There's school & eventually the very disruptive children can go to a centre. Upside; 1) They get paid a small social welfare payment if they turn up but it gets docked if they don't, a bit of incentive 2) Smaller class sizes (loads of educators 3) More open curriculum so interesting things to give them a positive education experience. 4) It's designed so only have to get a basic pass in key subjects & things they like to do. 5) It removes/offers another option, to the most disruptive kids from the system

In the Irish secondary school system students can take 'pass' (lower level) and honors (higher level) subjects. They obviously pick pass for their weaker subjects, & honors in subjects they like or perform well in. A high score in pass level has the same points as a low score in honors level. Teachers would have a certain say in the choice as they would never have a very weak student in an honors class. Highly disruptive (certain to 'drop out', chaotic home life, problems) students are identified and often end up in a special class/school (only in cities with the numbers) with loads of extra curricular to keep their interest, doing pass subjects to scrape a leaving cert (high school diploma)

The teacher student ratio there would be very high, and the school would be in a rented unit in an industrial estate. No need for a gym as PE & competitive sports wouldn't be of interest to these students, they're serious under achievers with no sense of discipline, team or purpose, Likely 'known to the police, with criminal potential. Lots of one on one time with teachers like a private tutor to get the human attention they crave etc. For mainstream students, pass level has no stigma, you use it strategically so you pass the subjects needed & get the best points you can to get the college place you want (including community college etc.). Not a perfect system, but judging by the comments here.... not awful either

I attended a black high school where I was one of at most four other white people there. It's pretty much as everyone else would describe it. The teachers didn't hold back on praising me for my outstanding performance, which was extremely awkward at times, but I wasn't about to pretend that I wasn't smarter than 99% of the other students either. The work was so painfully easy compared to the three other high schools I'd attended because I'm sure that the students would be too lazy or dull to even bother with it otherwise, but even with that advantage, most of them would still ask to copy my papers. Passing my paper around the classroom became a daily ritual in a lot of my classes, and the teachers didn't mind because at LEAST they were showing concern for their grades. The only way I could really connect with most of the other students was with a shared love for weed, but there was a small group of geeky types that I could better tolerate.

As a white teacher who spent 3 years teaching in schools where the majority of students were black, I will say I met some incredibly sweet students but some that just made me realize I needed to be elsewhere. I don't need to be called a "racist" because I ask a kid to sit down (and I do always ask politely, like Jeff, please find your seat and take your work out, I never shamed students). I remember we had one student attempt to steal a laptop computer and her father came in and had the nerve to ask why no white students got caught, because his daughter told him she wasn't the only one involved. Sure enough the principle caved and did not expel her. Later she tried again and the teacher knew their was a cop on campus so the teacher waited till she was down the street before asking the cop to catch her. Just another example showing that the parents were willing to use "racism" as a pure manipulation to allow their child to steal and cheat. That is not my job to try and counter that. If liberals care about black youth, they need to help them realize that calling someone "racist" just because you don't like them is extremely disrespectful and cannot be tolerated. If I allow a student to call me "racist" other students start to wonder if its true. Schools that teach students to be respectful are not going to go in need of teachers. I don't blame the kids, I blame the parents, media and leftists school administrators who pander to this. This has nothing to do with "racism", it is about a culture that has been encouraged to scream accusations in order to get what it wants and screw over working people like teachers and police. This is why the phrase "black lives matter" is wrong, because it implicitly is saying that police are all so hateful they need to be told that black lives matter. It implicitly assumes those working officers are evil. I have seen first hand that the people who are willing to go out on a limb to help poor black kids are accused of the same thing. At some point it is no mystery why teachers don't stay.

I canvery easily relate to your experience. I used to teach middle school math at an inner city ghetto school. Every day I would get home with extremely high blood pressure, my heart pounding like a racing car engine. That first (and only) year there I saw a seventh grade science teacher quit after only 4 months. I saw the 8th grade science teacher quit by mid September. the kids behaved like a bunch of wild savages. Whenever they didn’t agree with the slightest thing, they would call me a racist. For example, if I was to say their explanation to something was wrong, or ask them to re-do something, they would call me a racist. Teaching them was like teaching in a zoo. Getting them to sit down and focus was a tremendous challenge. They had the attention span of a flee, and their interest in learning anything was virtually non-existent.

Went to a white school and man it was so different. My family wanted to move back to South Carolina to be closer to other family members. So my zoning had a good school. The culture was so different. Class was quite the floors were clean. No fights we had minor issues. But never out of control. The white parents donated large amounts of money to school projects. The experience and culture surely influenced me in many aspects. I will admit I was heavily influenced by a particular individual.

The 'elephant in the room' comments are spot on. I went to a Hicksville, USA majority White school in a town of fewer than 1,000 people with no major issues. One fall, the administration (for whatever reason) agreed to bus in a group of about 50 Black students from a notoriously bad school in another small town. As soon as those kids got in, all hell literally broke loose. I'd never seen so much chaos in my life. Teachers started quitting left and right, the principal resigned (or was forced out due to his zero-tolerance policies) and there was just a general feeling of resentment against those kids for coming into our school and wreaking havoc.

I graduated high school back in 2004 and I went to a mixed school, but the behavior was all the same. The bullying was beyond torture for me being a light skin black girl. They used to fight me and my white friends would have to help me out. The black girls would spit in my hair, my food, you name it; the black boys would punch me and accuse me of being stuck up when in actuality, I was just quiet and very sheltered from growing up in a hardcore strict old school household (I knew nothing as a teen girl). That's how I learned how to fight -- in both junior high and high school - dealing with black folks smh. Now when I got older I started to steer clear from them but I noticed the few black friends I still keep in touch with, are the lighter ones who were in orchestra with me, as well as AP courses. They went through the same thing. So I guess my experience was compiled with not just the hood cultural aspect of the black community, but I dealt with colorism heavy. Today when I run into some of those people, especially the girls, they look down or lightly smile. They look awful. Despite being in my 30s, I am honestly still traumatized by it all. To all the teachers -- please save yourself from these demons. I know how my people work. It's not all but it is most. RUN LIKE HELL PLEASE.

I taught at a predominately black high school in Fort Worth, Texas for a couple of years. I had eggs thrown at me in the classroom. I had rocks thrown at my car. I'm white and a certified Texas high school teacher. I didn't belong to a teacher union. I had 45 students on my class rolls for 5 class periods. I taught 9th grade world geography. These kids for the most part were out of control. I flunked a star basketball player and his grade was changed by the administration to passing. During our school assemblies, the school never played the National Anthem, but always played the Black Anthem. This was back in 1996. Then, I taught at an at-risk high school in another district. It was better. I permanently retired in 2011. Before teaching high school, I owned my own business and worked for companies like Bayer, AG and had retired. School teachers catch holy hell! They basically all said that it felt hopeless, the kids do not want to learn, it's extremely hard to keep the classroom under control, and the parents want zero involvement

I used to teach calculus-based General Physics classes(Mechanics & Electromagnetism) in community colleges in southern California during the 90s and early 2000s. Most of the students were unmotivated and academically unprepared, especially in math. Many of my colleagues were burned out, incompetent and lazy. The school administration was a bureaucratic joke that was more concerned with shuffling paperwork and squeezing as much funding as possible from the state than the issue of education. The biggest favor my school district did for me was to lay me off during budget cuts and force me out of a dysfunctional and corrupt system. I can't see why anybody with any academic ability would want to waste their time working in public schools.
