Very nice, very nice. That animated segment caught me off guard.

I remember Christmas 1970 my uncle was on leave from the Vietnam war, where he piloted the F4 phantom, I remember a picture of him standing in front of his airplane with the white Helmut, I was a kid in awe. Godbless the USA.🇺🇸

Nothing like having a good multiplayer simulator to provide us the ability to "train like you fight, and Fight to WiN"!

F-14, such a great plane it was retired. The F-16, F-15 and F-18 still here.

Unfortunately the F-14 was a maintenance nightmare with something like 4 times the manhours versus the F-18 and even in her prime, saw about half of the planes grounded at anytime for maintenance while on deployment. That said I do believe many of the maintainnce issues would have been addressed had the Super Tomcat been produced as proposed. Unfortunately Dick Cheney while Secretary of Defense under Bush Sr hated Northrop and favored other contractors nixxing any chance for the Super Tomcatof the 21st century (aka ST-21) to get funding. When Cheney became VP under Bush Jr., the Tomcat's fate was sealed and there would be no Super Tomcat and the F-14 would be retired. Instead we got the Super Hornet...if you look at the specs a Super Tomcat would have beaten the Super Hornet is every category, ie ordance capacity, top speed, range, even low speed manueverability especially if it had vectored thrust. Now we are just left with old blueprints and think about what could have been.

It's not the plane, but the people in charge. How many times did a great plane get cancelled or get blacklisted.

10:20 am I alone in wishing we could go back in time snag the narrator after he made that comment. Then stick him in a nicely done sim-pit then put a top tier VR headset on him. I leave the make vague because I ain't trying to start a pissing match over what headset his best. But to be real you could put him in a Rift CV1 and it'd be one of those "religious experiences" but if we're going this far then it's gotta be top tier 2023/2024 set and why not said sim-pit is on a motion rig. So imagine a 2 place sim-pit generic enough to be used for the F-14, F-15E and the coming Phantom. Stick this dude in the RiO position and one of DCS's finest Tomcat pilots takes him out to do a bunch of stuff. I say RIO seat because I don't know if this guy is a pilot. It'd be pretty cool if this guy just so happened to be qualified in the Tomcat in which case stick him in the front. Can you just imagine how someone from back then would react to something like DCS world? Then when he's confident this is military only grade tell him nope, there is a version the military uses but this is for everyone and tons of people fly and fight "online" That'd be fun to watch someone comprehend what online play is. Then just to make sure his mind is totally fried by all the things we have let him spend a few minutes with a cellphone. Like just enough time to realize everyone in the civilized world carries in thier pocket all the knowledge in the world, BUT mostly used to view funny pet videos and people doing stupid shit then zap right back to what will now feel like to him to be the dark ages
