NO POWER NO START NO DISPLAY yamaha waverunner XL800

On my newest waverunner build I ran into a new problem. No display, no start and seemingly no power. Here is how I fixed it.
Dont attempt any of these repairs without proper training.

Its the pass lock system failing i pulled the plug with the brown and red wire and the brow and red/yelloo w stripe and plugged them together started right up

So you are saying the display may still be good? I figured it just failed. I forgot there is a way to lock these.

@@ShadetreeJetski yep my display is still good its really just those wires I worked on mine for 3 days then read something on a waverunner forum that said to unplug the plug with the brown and red w/yellow stripe plug thats going to the display and the brown and red wire plug from the start stop switch on the hadle bar and plug them together. This just bypasses the pass lock system👍

It was REALLY thick and of course worked and ran great on the trailer....not so great in the water.

@@ShadetreeJetski so my ski says "start when i press the START button,, no click from starter solenoid. NOTHING,, i jumped the salmonoid and it turns over but when i push start just the DASH SAYS START PLEASE HELP GUYS

I was given a non-working XL1200. This video and comment section helped diagnose the bad display. I bypassed the pass lock system and it fired right up! I can't thank you guys enough!!!!

@@executivefunction7151 These come with a lock system to enter a code to be able to start the ski. You are bypassing that system to start the ski.

My Yamaha GP1200 sat for 2 years. I got it out today to make sure it's okay and it cranked and started on ether for a few seconds. I checked the display and it was blank. And it wouldn't crank any more. I checked the ignition box fuse under the screw cap and it's good. Then it cranked up again and died and wouldn't crank any more. I bet I've got the same problem. Thanks!

Yeah try unplugging the blue connector. I dont know what the factory reset code is but I am sure google does.

Did putting EFI in oven work? I’ve got one that had water in display and used air hose to blow it out ( my Honda 450 atv would get moisture and that was the way to fix it so it would start until it finally didn’t) ski ran all day on the water started every time until it ran out of gas, and after we put fuel in it, it wouldn’t start even when I got home and blew it out with the air hose. You can see the screws inside of it arrested but the computer board looks good.

I have no power at the White connector that plugs into the start stop box White connecter what do you think it could be?

Yes I have explored that option ! Thank you very much for your advice ! I gave the job to my buddy Phils Jet Ski Repair In Jensen beach Florida! He has an engine hoist and pulling the engine out tomorrow!

I’m late to this party but I’m literally dealing with this right now. Was given a free 1998 GP800R that was bought new in 1998 and had three hours put on it. It was put under a tarp for 26 years and never ran again until 2014 on a random startup. Was then left UNCOVERED for the remainder of the time until I got it. it was given to me as a form of payment for something. Engine is not seized and electrical power is sent all the way to the display. after it hits display it’s dead display and wires beyond.

Every time my gp1200 loses battery power I have to unplug the blue connector to the display and replug it after a new battery is installed. I press theb hold the mode button until the display powers and enter the a b c a code, and then I get a display again.

I have a code of EEP on my xl 1200 1998 model and it will turn over but no spark to spark plugs I have watched several of video clips and no one has showed this code don't know what it is could u give me some idea on what could be wrong

It is possibly a bad guage or a security error code. AAAA entered as a default code if it has not been changed.

How do you remove the MFI from the ski. I have a 2000 gp1200r. Wondering If I have to pull the whole console?

Do a compression check. It should be 120 psi per cylinder.

Check the stator for continuity. Make sure the stop switch is functioning as it should and not staying presssed. It could also be a bad CDI BOX or coils. It could also be a problem in the wiring.

I got LX 760 I’m no crank no start!! How can I tell if my ski is having the same problem as yours

You probably have a bad engine cutoff switch. Take it apart clean the contacts and test it like I did in this video. Make sure you have a fully charged battery AND the contacts for the battery cables are not corroded. A bad solenoid can also cause a no start condition but the ski will usually make a clicking sound.

@@ShadetreeJetski so here is what I did, a comment in your video said unplug brown and red wire and red/yellow strip connect them together and it run no problem, put with that the gauge display dose not work!! So do you think that is the bypass lock thingy isn’t working probably how do I go about this one

@@boboahb If you bypass the pass lock system your guages will not work. You got it running, So you need another MFI display. Yours is bad. TCH watersports in Eatonton GA probably has a used one on a junk ski.. Look them up call them and they will pull one and mail it to you. I have no idea what they charge for one.

All you had to do was unplug the blue connector and do the reset factory code and it would have been just fine
