Really interesting insight into the science of pitch maintenance and how Rhinos grounds are managed. Missed this when first came out... one thing which presumably helps ground staff is that rugby union is no longer part of the Headingley picture!!

Ryan follows some great people, notably George Cawthray, who I worked for in the early 1960s and his assistant Ralph Dockray. I helped them with the underfloor heating and used to carry the benches from cricket to football, receiving 3 shillings an hour rather than the usual '2 and 6'. Ted Chapman was ground manager, Alf Rutherford GM and Albert Cowley employed me on the turnstile. Happy days!
