Arctic/Antarctic get their names from the constellations ursa major and ursa minor. Big bear/little bear. They are fully visible in the arctic, not so in the antarctic, thus the naming. Just happenstance about the polar bears.

The Emu War is one of my favorite bits of history of all time, 20,000+ Emus were ravaging farms, and the military was called in, after a few days and maybe 40 successful kills, the army was forced to withdraw due to bad media coverage, and an effectively failed use of equipment (something like 1K rounds of ammunition for a little over 40 birds or so). The army returned again, and was more successful, killing another 900 or so birds over several more days of fighting. In the end the Australian Army expended nearly 10000 rounds of ammunition over a several week period, killing only around 950, and wounding 2500 of the 20,000 strong Emu force raiding the crops. It was a massive failure and a waste of time, not only would the Emus just run away to other farms when the army showed up, the Aussies had many equipment failures, and as many as 2 soldiers were injured in the conflict. When the Army did get to engage the birds, the guns proved to also be failures as each Emu to around 10 rounds of ammunition to bring down. Its only surpassed in hilarity by the fact the only War France has fought and won took the 100 years war (which was actually 116 years long).

If you want the nerdy reason for cold drinks being fizzier it's cause gas is more soluble at lower temperatures. Just the other way round than solids but essentially the same concept as more sugar will dissolve in hot water, more CO2 dissolves in cold water
