It's a great point that the video creators makes by explaining that each town piggy backs off each other for what they need. One town might have the warehouse, while another has the grocery store. That's hard for most people to understand when they are used each town has it's own everything. Great video.

Yeah the creator has such a great personality. If she was to find locals during her drives to talk to between the drive alongs it would really give the viewers a better perspective on each town.

I know one thing I love about this video, you don't see a damn soul hanging OUTSIDE! I love it!!! I'm retired. I could live there. But where is the emergency services, for the town?

They only have the medical clinic but 20 min away is a hospital (Batesville Ms)

I was born and raised in the south. Although I graduated high school and moved away two weeks later, I still love seeing small towns with wide open spaces. ❤❤

Just came across your channel and love your content! I'm originally from Oakland, MS (live in Florida now) and never thought I'd see a KZbin video from an out of town visitor exploring the town 😀. You're spot on when you say don't focus on the population. When I was growing up it was just a way of life to go to the other neighboring towns to get groceries, jobs, restaurants, and other amenities (primarily Batesville, Grenada, and Charleston). On special occasions we'd go up to Memphis which is an hour up I-55. Regarding schools you're correct the kids from Oakland have to bus over to Coffeeville to attend school, but it was initially only for high school, that dates way back before I went to high school in the late 80's. Regarding the warehouse from what I understand one of the benefits to Oakland is it's location right off I-55. Those cabins, the two gas stations and the other places you stopped by are are strategically located right of the interstate. Couple other notes you're correct that old building you passed by in the downtown area the first one used to be a grocery store when we were growing up. The other building was the original bank. The area you drove though where the apartments, tennis courts and recreation park are, that's where old Oakland High School used to be. The story that was relayed to me by my late grandmother was during the timeframe when they were desegregating schools, Oakland High School was bombed. Again I love this video, a good portion of my family still lives in Oakland and are doing very well, now I'm really looking forward to my next visit! If you're ever interested I can fill you in on some other interesting facts regarding some of the other buildings in your video.

Some of those places look like sceneries from "In the Heat of The Night" with Carol O'Connor.
