I had 12 solar panels on my home when I lived in Oklahoma City. Four were dedicated to the huge over sized Lennox air conditioner. My electric bill usually ran $14.28 a month. I wondered how it could be the same most of the time so I called the electric company. We called and I learned that since weren't off grid that everyone pays an amount that goes toward maintenance. That amount was.... $14.28.
@stephenmorton80172 ай бұрын
yes, that's the connection/maintenance fee. isn't it funny how paying for the electricity isn't enough to cover that? basically what they are saying is: 'paying the power bill is how we make our profits. YOU pay for the maintenance.' electric utility customers are essentially dependent customers and they know this very well. this dependency is what forces them to try to make quick repairs when sections of the grid go down. no electricity, no commerce. we are dependent.

However to quote from Woodland councilman Ron Lane in the local News & Observer: “How would you and your family like to live in the middle of a solar farm, surrounded on all four sides? We have approved three solar farms on almost three points of the compass. This would have completely boxed the town in with solar farms.” I can't find the "3" the councilman is referring to, but looking at the satellite view there is a large solar farm north of town now

Just tell the residents you're going to have to limit electricity usage due to excessive sunlight consumption. TV, lights, AC etc. use is going to be limited to 2 hours per day, it could maybe be prevented by installation of a solar farm & anyone installing their own panels would not only avoid limits but also have lower bills & will help insulate their homes & help prevent skin cancer, that would be true if people choose to spend time in the shade of the solar farm

Painful. There's real genuine reasons to be concerned about solar farms... none of which are "it consumes sunlight". The real reason to be concerned about them is we haven't devised a method of safely disposing of solar panels, which only have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years, and the materials inside them are HIGHLY toxic to humans. When we throw them in trash heaps, they break down over a few years and release extremely toxic chemicals into the air that are carcinogenic and poisonous to humans. Right now, the number of panels is not believed to pose an immediate threat... but in 10, 20, 30 years? The world will be filled with them... ALL sitting in trash heaps, poisoning the air we breathe as they break down. They also cannot yet be recycled either. We are trading CO2 emissions for carcinogenic toxins in the air... and once again, our species is so myopic and stupid we're only going to do something about it AFTER its too late and has become a massive global problem.
@billgraham8612 ай бұрын
10 t0 15 years my ****! I bought eight of them in 1993; they still work, ace! they have degraded by about 20 percent, and that was in the first 10 years, I think due to manufacturing failures, not service time. Do you throw away your food and medicine after their expiration dates too?
@Hathur2 ай бұрын
@@billgraham861 Then you didn't buy chinese or indonesian made panels... 90% of which MADE TODAY, are made there.. which have much shorter lifespans. But you UTTERLY missed the point. Who cares if they live 10 years, or 25 years before needing replacement... THEY STILL GO TO A GARBAGE HEAP - where they release carcinogenic and highly toxic chemicals into the AIR as they break down. Until we invent a way to SAFELY dispose or recycle panels, we are facing a new environmental man-made disaster in the next 50 years as more and more panels are used around the world, because we haven't bothered to think of a way to safely throw them out. Solar panels were supposed to fix / help repair our man-made environmental disaster from Co2 emissions.. instead, they are creating a whole new and potentially deadlier one in the next half century. Scientists have been warning about this for 10+ years and NOBODY is listening.... just like nobody listened 30+ years ago when they warned about global warming.
