What your not realizing, that here in the U.S. , we pay 99 dollars a year for a yearly subscription, for the video doorbell, and that may seem like a bit much, but that subscription pays for all ring products, that same 99 dollars, I currently have 12 cameras, and the ring home alarm with connection to fire and police. And I pay the same 99 dollars, as other systems like Nest the more cameras you get the more you have to pay for storage , so if you join the ring family, no matter what you add on, you pay the same 99 dollars, and you get all the bells and whistles. Looking at it that way, it’s very inexpensive. And worth the money.
@Colin_Ames2 жыл бұрын
@@tooslowstar I am in the US. When I looked into the ring alarm I got the impression, from their website, that professional monitoring was an extra $200 per year, on top of the $99 regular subscription. Local storage means it’s stored on a home base or some type of device inside your home. If it’s on the actual doorbell itself that would be crazy. Cloud is actually the main disadvantage, and the main source of income for the seller. It is a ripoff like the ink cartridges for printers and anything else cloud based that doesn't need to be. I would prefer to have local storage of images and image sending server, but guess what: no door bell offers this. The sweet pie of monthly subscription is too sweet to give up.
@brolinofvandar2 жыл бұрын
@@florinpandele5205 That's the main reason I haven't implemented any cameras around here. I have an internal home network (wired and wifi) and have an existing (internal only) server on that network. I'd like a camera that could just use my existing network to connect to that server and save its video at a designated location there. Let me manage the space consumed. Kind of like a dashcam app I had on a phone years ago. It saved its video to the phone's SD card. So why not a doorbell cam that saves to a local network storage location. Seems simple enough, but everything seems to insist on a "cloud" connection. Just like the wifi functionality in appliances. Connecting a dryer to wifi to let your phone inform you a cycle is done might be nice (particularly if the laundry room is isolated, in the basement, etc), but why does something like that have any reason to use, much less need, a cloud connection? Why does my vacuum cleaner need a cloud connection? Just seems silly. I see no reason why I should not be able to have ANY device on my network talk to ANY other device also on the network directly, without requiring any external service.

So, as a video doorbell only this might be equal to the Ring, or even better if you consider that you have some local memory capability, but don't confuse the two. This is not as secure of a device. If someone walks up and rips this off the door/doorpost then your memory capability is gone with it, and they are free to enter your home without having an image of their arrival available to you. When you pay to have the Ring camera cloud connected the video goes via Wi-fi to the cloud almost immediately and remains available there even if the device is stolen or destroyed.

I would be worried about someone prying off the bell and smashing it, which is why using one of the free, or already rented cloud (for other purposes) makes the most sense. I have been making security cameras out of old phones since 2015, and 4g trail cameras since 2021, and have always found that fisheye lenses are essential, otherwise I miss half of the beings that I am trying to capture. How do they know it has an sd card inside and its not using the optional cloud storage
@Uvoted4this Жыл бұрын
GEENI brand also has NO cost subscription and it saves it to a chip inside continuously and you can send it to your own cell phone SD card or anything else you want to. All the subscription services are a total rip off.

I’m always weary of no subscription as pretty much all publicly companies that don’t charge a subscription usually die. I have been screwed by companies dying and the products are just bricks.

Can it tell you that a stranger is at the door? Or like ring can it recognize repeat visitors & not bother you? Can it store video someplace secure, instead of a microSD card that anyone can steal?
@rcczar28852 жыл бұрын
Do motion events work like Ring, i.e sends a notification to say that motion was detected, you see nothing on the live stream and you cannot view the motion event until it has processed the video file, which always few minutes too late.

You don’t seem to need to wait to be able to play the video as it’s set to record only a 10 second clip

I have a number of Ring products. The Ring Doorbell Pro, and an older Ring Doorbell which covers the porch area. The other cameras surround the house and have in the past detected and recorded persons loitering around my parked cars. The subscription that I have with Ring is as many cameras that I want for $100 dollars a year. Each camera has video recordings for 60 days of storage. I used that feature when I was expecting a package from FED EX. The Fed Ex sent me a text that my package was delivered in person. That means that the delivery driver handed it to me. Which is amazing because I was at work at the time. When I got home, there was no package, and no one at home knew anything about it. I logged onto Ring Camera website and at the time Fed Ex said they delivered the package, My two different angled front cameras recorded the Fed Ex delivery truck driving by my house and continuing down the road. None of the other camera's recorded any approach to my house. So my storage feature worked out good for me. Fedex did their investigation and paid my claim after I offered a video of their truck passing by. My neighbors both have Ring Cameras so most of the block is covered my cameras. It is a quiet neighborhood and the cameras bring a little safety. The Ring subscription was 10 dollars a month, but if you bought the year it was $100. Best wishes. It also records great lighting shots during a thunderstorm.

Did I hear you correctly with the monthly fee?!😮. OK... yearly fee. Still not keen on Ring due to invasive permissions.

Not sure why your subscription is £35 @ month I’ve been with ring for 5 years now and my subscription is the basic one @ £39 @ year! Basic for the door camera is more than sufficient plus ring has a much wider field of view.

Hi Leepspvideo, Very helpful and informative video. I have been researching doorbell video cameras for about 2 years, and have still not taken the plunge. As an 84 year old man, and not very technical, how do I find out whether I am on 2,4Gz or 5Gz. Do you have another top choice other than the XTU. Many thanks. Terry Davis

I use History, calendar then pick a day or click alert. Alternatively take the micro sd card out and view it on a computer

Can i just say as a postie i never use these things, if i can leave a parcel i will, but I don't have time to argue with anyone miles away on the end of a mobile phone. but i suppose they do deter doorstep thief which is good.
@leepspvideo2 жыл бұрын
If I’m in it works with the chime like a traditional bell, if I am home hoovering my watch taps me so I don’t miss a call. I can also see your point not wanting to discuss with people far away about where to leave their parcel.
@barryrogers98622 жыл бұрын
@@leepspvideo It’s not so much about “where“ to leave a parcel it’s more about someone wanting me to sign for a special delivery (which can be insured for up to £30,000) and put under the tree then getting all arsey when I won’t do it, if I can leave something I’ll leave it in a safe place and leave a note. Trust me we bend the rules as much as we can to avoid filling out those dreaded “Something for you” cards and taking things back.
@cplcabs2 жыл бұрын
@@barryrogers9862 don’t I know you lot bend the rules. My posties just dump any parcels right outside the door. I currently live in a flat with exposed walkway and there is no safe place to leave a parcel. Sometimes they don’t even knock or ring the non video/audio doorbell, just dump the box and go. (Not all of them do that, a couple do actually do the job properly).
@radiotowers11592 жыл бұрын
subscription for ring is per Year not per Month, just watch XTU does not suck you in then start charging. And does the SD card fit outside ? mm. Do we know how secure the app is ?. Some security door bells were criticized by Which Magazine because they gave easy access to your WiFi

Great review. Love the on-board SD and rechargable battery. 2 questions if I can ask.. Does it stream continually (if you added an external psu?) Is it Alexa Compatible.. Ty
@leepspvideo2 жыл бұрын
I think 30 seconds was the longest recording duration although live streaming on mobile hasn’t timed out on me yet. I haven’t seen any mention of Alexa, was thinking I might have used an echo dot as a chime. I ordered the official XTU chime.

If you can sent a video to someone else, can't you save that video to an external drive? Why use the cloud of you can save it to an external drive? Where I currently live, packages are not visible from the street. Someone would have walk all the way up to see if a package was at my door. Since I have lots of neighbours who are home all the time, no one comes back here unless they are invited. But this is good to know should I move to a place where I need to see who has come and gone.

I would prefer to not have it on wifi, and instead have a LAN cable to plug in, or be able to set it up onto a different wifi network than my regular devices, as there is no information on how secure the internet connection is, as IoT devices can be a security hole into your internal network.
