Wow, the camouflage really works, especially if there are rocks around, only the flapping in the wind was giving the position away

So lucky you have allmansretten, friluftsliv. There once was a time many years ago before the internet and online reservations, I could pack my gear and go to the wilderness without much planning here in Canada. Now all the park systems ( only places you can really explore because of private land ownership) require reservations and this can often be full almost 6 months in advance. 😢 So now I try to visit Norway 🇳🇴one a year 😊
@HikingHansen3 ай бұрын
Tell me about it. We are so privileged 🇳🇴 Is that so? Making reservations to go camping sounds absurd to me 😅 When’s the next time you are planning on coming to Norway again?
@robcote14783 ай бұрын
@@HikingHansen Most well established marked hiking trails are found in parks managed at the National, provincial and regional level. Almost all required entry fees and you cannot camp just anywhere. There are specific areas for camping 🏕️ and most require advance reservation. Even in the 1990’s I would go hiking in Yosemite national park and you would apply for permit with your planned route, trail head and finish point 😬🙄 so in 2001, I discovered Norway 🇳🇴 and have been 8 times since then. I’m thinking of doing a fjellskitur in Hardangervidda area next March. 🤞
@HikingHansen3 ай бұрын
@@robcote1478 Interesting 🤔 Is it the same for the northern parts of Canada? For example, I didn’t think Jon (Lostlakes) and Keenan (canoethenort) had to apply to go camping - I might be mixing up what we talk about here ☺️ Anyhow, awesome that you are considering Hardangervidda in March. I’m planning the same - to cross the plateau in 48 hours. Maybe we’ll meet up there 🤜
@robcote14783 ай бұрын
@@HikingHansen You’re correct the northern and western parts of Canada have more areas that have less or no restrictions yet often they are quite difficult to access and as I live in Eastern Canada it’s less costly to travel to Norway 👏👍 Wow 48hrs to cross the plateau 😮 yes perhaps we will cross paths 🤞🤜 really enjoying your content 😀

Thank you 🙌 The same thing is happening here too. The fall season is beautiful but it passes quickly. I’m planning on doing a six day canoeing trip late September, so I’m hoping for good weather. We met a couple of guys with fishing rods, and they had caught about 30 trouts, but non of them were big (200-300 grams). I go elsewhere to find bigger fish 😉

In my job I used to monitor temperature in the glasshouse. You would be amazed at how the temp drops just before dawn. On a cloudless night it drop consistanly until about 1hr before dawn. Then it drips sharply. 1 or even 2 degrees. After sunrise it then rises again. Their is a reason which is too long to explain here. You should read up on it. Very interesting and useful to understand when camping.
@HikingHansen3 ай бұрын
I think this an interesting topic. I’ve read about the effect of sleeping under an open sky compared to under a tarp, and the difference is significant. I definitely think this is something people should consider when choosing a sleeping system, tent/no tent and so on.

Ah, so sweet, a lovely gesture to your girlfriend 😊👍 I was wondering; the tall boots that you wear, are they a Lundhags model? They aren’t popular here in Scotland, but given their popularity in Scandinavia I can’t understand why they are so overlooked here. From my understanding they aren’t lined - do you find that once you’ve added dubbin/wax that they are sufficiently waterproof? Much of the terrain here is similar to yours, and I’m keen to try a relatively lightweight high top boot for the added ankle protection when carrying heavy loads. Many thanks and happy adventuring 👍🏔🏕️
@HikingHansen3 ай бұрын
She’s so excited for the WM pants 👌 Aren’t they? That’s strange 🤔 We both have Lundhags Jaure LT high. I like that they aren’t lined. You compensate for the lining with two pairs of wool socks. I usually wax my boots before heading out on a trip, and they stay dry for the entire trip. Check out the model I referred to above, they are both light and give good support. The only downside is the price ☺️
@ashtoddphotography3 ай бұрын
@@HikingHansen Thanks very much for the info. Your videos had jogged my memory of the boots from when I lived in Norway over 20 years ago! Unfortunately I can’t find anywhere in the UK who stock Lundhags, which is crazy - this is in all honesty a very strange little island, perhaps a bit backward dare I say it. Ordering such an expensive boot without being able to try on is a bit foolhardy. Thanks though 👍
@HikingHansen3 ай бұрын
@@ashtoddphotography If you order a pair that is 20 mm longer than your feet, you should be fine. The size chart on the website newer fails (measure your foot in millimeters and add 20 mm). Optimize the fit by trying different socks. I have the same challenge as you when it comes to the UK. I’m looking for a Swift pack boat, but the only dealer in Europe is located in the UK 🤷♂️
@ashtoddphotography3 ай бұрын
@@HikingHansen thanks for the advice! As usual I’m between sizes, but you know life is for taking risks, whether that be on the trails or whilst purchasing boots, so I just ordered two pairs 😂 It will be fun returning one of them to Finland!!! I’m amazed that the UK is the only stockist for that boat, which to be honest isn’t a particularly popular past time in the UK. Good luck finding one, I guess that if it’s something that would be fulfilling and is within budget then go for it, make life rich in experiences 👍
