A charity wants access to my bank account so it can take a monthly donation from me. I only have two direct debits, I don't want any more. I will make cash donations to those who accept cash. CBDC is coming, which will take away all our freedoms. We must keep using cash. The salesman tried his best to get me signed up, but I decide what I do with my money.

Same here, I have offered cash several times but the charity collectors have said they cannot take cash and want to sign me up. When I refuse they get quite offended and huffy. It is horrid because it makes me feel mean but I I will not give my power away.

Oh...grow a spine. Say no, no one is forcing you to do anything, If they block your access to the exit or keep harassing you, just call the police. It's nothing short of bullying at that point. It doesn't "make" you feel mean. You choose to feel that way and need to learn how to confidently say no.

It's a slippery slope, they lie. Slowly, bit by bit, they will phase out cash and make it more difficult to use it. More banks will close. This is why they want everybody to have a smart phone, so they can track your every movement. This is why they locked down and made people either redundant closing small businesses, or work from home. Order everything online and you never need to leave your four walls because everything will be delivered to you. When they control your money they control everything. And people are happy to let that happen.

I have started to pay all my bills with cash. Recently I went to the store that sells my internet to pay , The next day someone from the company phoned me, saying they just wanted to let me know that it would be more convenient for me to pay the bill online. Next, I went to pay a bill with cash at my bank, like I used to in the old days. The teller says, "Oh, just pay through the app." They act like you have something wrong with you for wanting to pay with cash. Here in Canada we are well on our way to a digital currency but I plan on fighting it as much as I can.

I totally agree with you. keep cash flowing. as far as having direct debits I don't support any charity by this method, but will give cash. but I support charity shop by making small purchases. if approached I tell them I'm retired, and I still pay income tax. So my government makes huge donations, every month on my behalf to help the needy.

I agree with you it’s very intimidating the way they stand in entrances and almost stop you going in . Most people can’t afford what they are asking like you say you can’t just give a £1 cash they decide the amount from the bank account . And if you gave to all of them we would have no money left . Fed up with them putting people on a guilt trip .

Totally agree with you Ilona. It's very worrying the way things are going. Like you I totally refuse to give charities my bank details. It annoys me that charity reps stand in shop doorways pressurising people. I will happily donate some cash, if they can't accept it then sadly they lose out.

I just tell charity collectors that I have my own choice of charities that I like to support and they are usually accepting of that. The bigger nightmare scenario unfolding this week is trying to pay for car parking, with the ability to pay by cash (most peoples preferred method) being taken away from us and we don’t have any say in it. Apparently there could be as many as 30 different Apps to use depending on where one is in the Country, and quite often people are being fined or risk it (causing them much anxiety) as often these apps or card machines do not work, causing delays and frustration for people in trying to contact the parking company in order to put it right. It is just horrific.

Hi Ilona- this is already happening. Certain shops are already refusing cash and only accept cards. I think you are right in what you say. Don't let them have access to your bank account via DD or Standing Orders. The sad thing about this is I struggle to get shopping or pay bills or pay for petrol etc with cash- lots of places now turn you away or look at you as though there is something wrong with you.....😢
@meanqueensuperscrimper8908

I am not sure why you are struggling. Is it because of where you live, nowhere to withdraw cash out of your account? I get mine out of the Post Office, with a bank debit card. I have just paid my water bill with a cheque, sent in the post. If a shop refuses to accept cash, you have the option of walking out, saying your loss then. I don't care what people think of me. My money, I decide.

I paid cash in a cafe last week and thanked them for still using cash. I was horrified when she told me that she'd read that your credit score could be affected by how many times you draw cash out of your account! I don’t know if this is accurate, but I don't think it's fair if it is true. So many folks living hand to mouth use cash so they can keep track of what they've got. Keep on keeping on...

I would suggest going a step further than getting rid of the apps off your phone - get rid of the smartphone. Dumbphones (the derogatory sounding term for non smartphones) are still available. They only make and receive calls and texts and they do not support applications. Just make sure it is a 4G enabled model, as 3G will be turned off in the near future.

A lot of charities have gone down the route of asking for banking details for regular donations every month. A lot of them have scrapped cash donations because unfortunately some charity collectors were not very honest and ran off with the cash. A lot of charity collectors (known as "Chugers") now get paid a commission only and get paid based on how many bank details they get per day for donations. If they don't meet their quotas then they don't get paid. This is why so many of them are pushy and try to guilt trip people into signing up. I tend to tell them that when I do want to donate to a charity I will go to a charity shop instead and use cash! 😂

In france we have the local firemen come round in December for donations for their welfare fund. they will take cash or cheque & by law they have to give a receipt . You can claim it on your tax income tax declaration. My favourite way to help charities is to donate personal items no longer needed. Im a firm believer in adopting pets from animal shelters (3 dogs & 2 cats over the years) which isnt free, you make a fixed donation at the time of adoption. To be hassled while you're shopping is not on!

Yes, I suppose lying would be the easy option to get out of their clutches. I prefer to be honest and tell them why I won't be giving them my bank details. Then if there is an enquiry about why their income has taken a plunge, a managers meeting may come to the conclusion that they would be more productive if they reinstated cash donations.
