I'm always honored to hear choirs perform this piece on youtube . . . I have to say that of all the lovely performances I've heard, this one TRULY captures the style and feeling I have in mind when I wrote the the arrangement. Thank you for singing it with such musical spirit and heart. Love, love, love it! Sincerely yours, Susan Brumfield :)

I will never fail to tear up when I hear this piece. The women’s choir did this when I was in high school, and being in the men’s choir I cried every single time I heard them rehearse or perform this. One of the most impactful pieces of music I’ll ever hear and one I’ll carry with me the rest of my life.

4:47 was so good. It is such a pleasure to hear the male voices supporting that part.

It's obvious that the singers love performing this song and giving their best for the conductor. Wonderful job!

I have to agree with Susan Brumfield. I love this, and there is no other way than to have a childrens choir sing this. I have heard it from the BYU Idaho Collegiate Singers and the Womans Choir of St. Olaf, but this is the best one so far. Wonderful.

Ms. Brumfield, This is a marvelous piece of music, and my varsity choir is presently learning it. Spivey Hall's is indeed a superior performance of the song. I hope we are able to achieve that same high level of musicianship. On our music, the suggested tempo is quarter note equals 72 beats per minute. The Spivey Hall performance is more along the lines of quarter note equals 56 beats per minute. I like the slower tempo, and I want to confirm that you are ok with it, too. Thank you very much.

Jaida I am a director, a singer, and a private teacher. Sometimes it is easy to go for the round sound because it's what might sound best immediately even if it get younger voices to collapse down, drop their tongues which depress the larynx, and keeps the natural bright resonance out of the sound. While it may be a good sound for a group, I don't always love the things people do to make sound like that. It's actually quite a challenging thing to do even for the most mature and technically proficient singers, yet often choir directors expect their untrained and young voices to be able to make that sound in a healthy way.

tbh they need to sing with more space in their mouths. they sound like pop singers and that's not the intent of the song.
@jaywad419 жыл бұрын
TheGood-TheBad TheScribble I would say they sound correct for their age. One of things about creating extra space or over darkening is that you are asking kids to create a mature sound in an artificial way. It's refreshing to hear a group sound appropriate for their age!!
