This was really uncharted territory! It was a crazy and fun adventure! The locals know the area really well, but even our guide struggled to know the way to this incredible Old Spanish Fort built out of coral. We had to go at high tide, otherwise there was no boat passage access. Our Host David offered to take us with a guide so since we are always up for an adventure and seeing new things, especially ones that not many people go to, or in this case, no tourists, We said YES! We stopped in the city of Culion to pick up our guide. He was helpful to navigate the way as well as share the history behind the old Spanish fort. In the town of Culion, there is another one which has been updated and sits on the hill and overlooks the bay. It is beautiful!
Because our boat is larger, we struggled to get up the channel to make it. We almost had to turn around, or swim, or climb trees to get there, but luckily a man nearby came and offered us his bolo - machete. That allowed us to cut away a passage to get through enough to safely reach the land. It was a crazy adventure. We then trekked through the beautiful wilderness to finally reach the Spanish Fort.
This is where the video ends. We will pick up in the next video where we left off so you can see the ruins of this cool Old Spanish Fort!
