Don't worry about the labeling difference. They are the same except for the antibacterial properties. Law requires them to market it that way. They both ARE dishwashing liquids like the bottom of the label says. If you scan the QR code on the blue Dawn it will take you to the blue Dawn product page. If you scan the code on the green Dawn, it will take you to the green Dawn page. As the label says at the bottom, they both are dishwashing liquid but one can be also used as a hand soap. Except for the active ingrediant of Chloroxylenol, coloring and scent, all ingrtedients for both are virtually the same. Its pretty easy to make the misunderstanding as the OP did, so no judgement on her.

Green Dawn is tough on grease but *supposedly* gentle enough to clean hands. Blue Dawn is tough on grease but gentle enough to wash crude oil off cute ducklings. It also cleans toilets, sinks, tubs, shower curtains, countertops, stoves and barbecue grills but they don’t label it for that. (Do NOT use it on floors; you’ve been warned.) It also kills many insects but they don’t label it for that. It makes an amazing solution for blowing bubbles when you add sugar, but neither Dawn nor Domino are labeled for that. A drop of it in puddles and water containers in your garden will prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. And oh, it not only cleans toilets but can unclog them when combined with hot water. It can lube a rusted padlock or door hinge. Don’t sleep on blue Dawn! Green Dawn makes great traps for fruit flies and fungus gnats. Let me stop now before something else dawns on me.

The “hand soap” classification is referring to the antibacterial component-they can’t label it as “antibacterial dish soap” bc the active ingredient chloroxylenol can’t kill enough germs on dishes for it to be marketed for that purpose, but it will kill them on hands. However the part that says “dishwashing liquid” is still referring to the product, as it contains stronger surfactants than regular hand soap that can cut grease on dishes. The product specifications state: “Fights germs on hands* (*when used as hand soap), fights grease on dishes.” So, it’s both. Hope that clears things up!
@judigrumm7190
@judigrumm7190 Ай бұрын
The certification relates to time needed for killing. They all kill bacteria if used correctly. Some take longer and can't get the certification for labeling. The surfactant that removes grease so well also removes all the oils from your skin an can cause severe reactions. A good reason not to use Dawn blue for regular hand washing, but definitely better for dish washing.

@melissasaylor if you have a septic tank don't just any antibacterial soap because it will cause all of the bacteria in the tank to died and you will have major problems that are very expensive. Antibacterial soap is also very harmful to the environment as well because it kills all bacteria and not just the bad bacteria. Doctors don't recommend using antibacterial soap endless you have a very compromised immune system. It is actually bad to use antibacterial soap because it doesn't just kill the bad bacteria but also the good bacteria you want on your skin. My grandma was told that using antibacterial soap can also lead to antibiotic resistant bacteria that can be very bad if antibiotics are needed.

Funny, I was going to ask you if she's Latina, then I saw your moniker. My friend Aleida in HS (mid-90s) used to do the same, and condition with DOWNY. We were concerned. She also bleached her hair CONSTANTLY; we were all horrified by the amount and frequency. (Esp since we had mandatory swimming in a quite chlorinated pool, like twice weekly. She'd laugh and say the soap and especially Downy was the exact reason _she could._ To boot, she straightened her hair _near-daily,_ and legit used a clothes iron to flatten. (Of course we joked about it being perfectly fitting since she used fabric softener to condition.) Yet, with all that frying and dyeing, her hair remained very strong, long, and seemingly healthy. Mostly, it was _very_ soft. Her hair actually appeared thicker and stronger with these treatments, and her wavy curls would spring right back when "natural". 🧬, 🩸, and age obv factor in, but I've never forgotten that, and always remained intrigued.

So, as it turns out, the Green Apple Green Dawn says “hand soap” at the top next to the word *antibacterial* its emphasis is on the fact that using this formula provides antibacterial properties when used as a hand soap, it’s still dish soap, but cannot extend the antibacterial effects to your dishes.

I happen to have a bottle and I did think it could be used as both but noticed when doing dishes it really wasn’t cleaning like the blue dawn I looked on the back of the bottle and at the top it says: USE-for handwashing to decrease bacteria on the skin and the directions tell you how to use it -wet hands and forearms apply to hands and forearms. I think this is definitely a marketing strategy no wonder there are not any commercials with the dawn antibacterial it’s because people will realize it’s a hand soap and will stop buying it for washing dishes which is where all the stores are placing this-no one is actually reading the label at least I didn’t (read the back) I just thought this was a dual purpose dishwashing liquid next time I am in the store not that it will matter if I see a worker I am going to point this out….maybe they know 🤫 sales would be higher in the dish soap isle no one would purchase it in the hand soap isle for hand soap!

These chemicals have been linked to health concerns like hormone disruption and possible cancer risks, so I feel more comfortable using cleaner, safer alternatives for my home rather than DAWN. Maybe, one day if Proctor and Gamble decide to cut these bad ingredients out of their products completely, then I would consider using their products again. I never noticed that. Thank you for letting us know. Also, the purple dawn is good for getting hair dye off of the skin. This guy had told me about that before I went on a date with him, cuz my daughter had dyed my hair and got dye on my forehead. Thank you Ms. Pam for all your helpful and informative videos! You’re right, the product description at the top of the label is what’s in the bottle. The “versus … dishwashing detergent” part lower on the label is tied to the asterisk (*) on the “50%” more/better/whatever claim above. They have to qualify their ‘percentage better” claims with an *statement. Their label designer is either bad at their job, or very good at misleading design tactics.

I'm surprised i haven't had anything explode on me! 😅 So how do you do it? Tia you said as the prewash?

Dawn offers a variety of products, including both dishwashing liquids and hand soaps. Some Dawn products are specifically formulated to serve as both dishwashing liquid and hand soap. Dawn Antibacterial Hand Soap is designed to kill 99% of bacteria on hands while also being effective for washing dishes1. So, if you have a bottle of Dawn that is labeled as hand soap, it can likely be used for both purposes. However, there are also Dawn products that are strictly for dishwashing, like Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray, which is not intended for use on hands.

Soap is soap is soap. All of it does the same thing: It breaks down the lipid barriers that protect bacteria, which is what kills them. All soap is also inherently degreasing, which is why it dries out your hands: the lipids in your skin interact with it, which is also a part of what makes soap "slippery" -- its interaction with your "skin grease." "Dish soap" is formulated to make a bubble bath for your dishes, but it's completely unnecessary if you have a dish rag and a bar of plain soap.

I have to say a big fat no to that. Roommate brought home a dollar store dish washing liquid. It was so bad we had to wipe out as much of the grease as humanly possible then use huge amounts trying to clean a frying pan. Finally said F that and went and bought some Dawn. I remember as a kid before there was Dawn. Trust me the world is a better place with Dawn in it

The biggest deception is they’re slowly making us all sick with these toxic chemicals. Dawn is terrible and is full of carcinogenic ingredients. So we’re coating our dishes in toxins, eating from them, and also absorbing them when washing. It’s a terrible time we’re living in right now, full of unavoidable poisons that are destroying our bodies and the earth

Soap works the same pretty much no matter what, they're just more moisturizer in hand soap. Also, using antibacterial soap so often has created "super bacteria and viruses" that are much more resistant to antibiotics. Because of that, I use antibacterial soap as little as possible. When used correctly, regular soap kills ickies just as well.

You're thinking of an overuse of ANTIBIOTICS. Overuse of antibacterial soaps may act as endocrine disruptors. - This happens because triclosan resembles human hormones and can fool systems that rely on the thyroid. Using antibacterial soap isn't creating super bugs. Most people don't wash their hands or bodies often enough for that
