Don’t hold the kicker, you double your odds of getting a special 4 of a kind by holding the 3 cards and taking two additional cards. This is painful to watch.

2 years ago my very first time playing Ultimate X it dealt me the Royal on nickel denom, 5 Play. I had only been playing it for about 5 minutes. I could not believe it. I got a nice $3,000 Jackpot Handpay out of it.

Thomas is right completely. Your 1st priority is to get 4 of a kind . When u hold the kicker u have closed that slot - then u have only 1 slot to get the other 4 th card . When u leave 2 open and ur odds are against getting a 234 w ace u are better off doing that cuz you will get paid well w 4 aces . You are not playing the odds correctly . That’s all

Pro tip: When your dealt 3 of a kind on DDB Poker, NEVER hold a Kicker card. The only time you hold a kicker card is when you are dealt 4 of a kind. Nice Natural Royal flush!

I have Video Poker for Winners, and I will use it to get the correct max-EV strategy for each hand in the video in which a kicker was held. I'm not going to go into max-CE strategy or bankroll numbers at which that strategy would change, because I think that's not the way most folks play. In the video, the only game in which kickers were held was 9/6 Triple Double Bonus, so that's the game I'm using in VPW. 2:44 44T24: Holding 4442 has an EV of 54.57 coins. Holding 444 has an EV of 45.01 coins. 4442 is the better play. 3:03 A3633: Holding 333A has an EV of 54.57 coins. Holding 333 has an EV of 45.01 coins. 333A is the better play. 3:10 AA4A8: Holding AAA4 has an EV of 97.13 coins. Holding AAA has an EV of 78.32 coins. AAA4 is the better play. 3:35 2A22A: Holding 222A has an EV of 52.83 coins. Holding 222AA has an EV of 45 coins. 222A is the better play. 3:51 333TA: Holding 333A has an EV of 54.57 coins. Holding 333 has an EV of 45.01 coins. 333A is the better play. 3:57 5444A: Holding 444A has an EV of 54.57 coins. Holding 444 has an EV of 45.01 coins. 444A is the better play. 4:02 and 4:09 2QA22: Holding 222A has an EV of 54.57 coins.
