This Squareback was to become my monster truck... but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Lots of things have happened since, and now its time to help a friend in need. First, lets fix some rust!

Panel bond is such a great alternative that’s been so successful for you in the past. Mike Fn has used it to install Bus cargo floors as well.

Only need enough to just smooth the surface, might be able to get away with some high build primer.

Great Video. Try some plastic door shims. They make great wedges. You can reuse them.

I kind of get it what he's doing in his yard. Vacuuming when I was about 4 years old I took my mom's old Hoover vacuum. It didn't have a bag on it. It was an upright and I vacuumed her flower garden with it😂

G'day Lord Duckman. That 3M Panel bond your using is really the 🐝 knees. I've been using it on my 67 splity restoration and this stuff saves so much time and in many cases a safer repair. So thanks for sharing man ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

I don't have any ideas on repairs but, man that brought back memories. My late Grandma had that same car. I remember she never went over 40 mph and she would hit 4th gear about 50'. Don't know how that car kept going. German Engineering I guess.

Really good fix for that rust. I like the fact that there is no welding involved. I replaced My 71 fastback ignition. Had to use a 72 and cut the plug off to wire it to the factory harness. I really only needed 4 wires. Can't find a 71. Good video, Lord Duckman 🦆. Noel

Yeah the 71 ignition seems to be special, and the parts used on this particular one seems to be irregular from even that. Nonetheless, I got parts for it and got it working properly! Another short video about that will pop up tomorrow!

Excellent video Glenn :) also weld to friends vechiles 1971 Volkswagen car and also first ever heard one those for that year be Fuel Injection type ! I know a friend of mine got 1955 Chevrolet Pickup 3 generation owner he got a modern was Carburetor V8 motor but he got electrical fuel injection 2 carbs Holley types on was wild he to show me !

LoL! That was one of the SMALL ones... probably the one that chewed through the oil sender wire, and stole the connector off the switch. Little bastard! The oil light just quit working when I shot this video, and found that. Fixed now, and that shitty rat has been evicted!

Uneducated question. If the owner wants the rack installed. Could you panel bond studs to the roof somehow. Maybe a 1.5 in square with a carriage type bolt. Then there are no holes.

That would work, sure. Gotta clean down to bare metal... roof will need paint again. But there are other, better, non-intrusive roof racks that attach right to the gutter with clamps. No holes, no screws, no worries. 😁👍🏻🦆💩 You can see one of these on the blue Squareback I've been working on. But yes, your plan would work!
