People whom aesthetically modify their GT-T’s to look like GT-R’s should just replace the GT-R badge with a Nismo badge ( if they are truly Nismo tuned), or remove the badge/s altogether. Then If someone says “that’s not a real GT-R”, the owner can say, “I never said it was.” It’s a GT-T with a GT-R conversion; hopefully a full one, for more respect considering the work done. Like Craig said, it’s better to not even bother doing all that work and just be authentic and and enjoy a GT- T or 330i for what it is.

The last thing I wanted was for anyone to confuse it for a GTR. GTRs are amazing but the car does a lot of the heavy lifting with the driving. The GTS25t, GTT and GTS-t all are fantastic cars that should get plenty of recognition in their own right.

Thanks for making this. As a GTR owner, I'm glad someone actually said it. Skylines are the only car that up badging is "OK" to the greater public. It's "OK" to lie about what you have and misrepresent yourself to unknowing people. Yet, if you upbadge an Evo, Mustang, Mercedes, BMW, etc, etc, everyone will call you out on it. Yet if it's a skyline, you get cheered on for it. GTTs are absolutely cool cars, especially when they're built like modified GTTs. There are GTT specific body kits, GTT specific engine mods, and things you can do with them that you can't with a GTR. When every GTT looks like a GTR, they're all the same. And, boring... The GTR chassis itself is actually different than a GTT in a number of areas. Example: The transmission tunnel in a GTR is wider to accommodate the transfer case. If you put ATESSA in a GTT chassis you'd have to cut a hole in it. Again - no one is going through this kind of labor for a "conversion", and even then it will still never be a GTR.

What people don't realize about rear quarter panels is that they have to be metal or carbon fiber ( and one piece), as the structural rigidity of the rear of the car depends on the rear quarter panel due to its unibody design. I think a roll cage may help with this, but even with that and in trunk structural support the car would be dangerously structurally unsound and will cause issues. Same with the bmw e30

I personally don't have an issue with people building GT-R replicas (If done properly by using genuine panels such as quarter panels, bonnet etc) and, horror of all horrors I don't particularly mind them having the GT-R badge (again, if done properly). To me at least, it becomes a problem when that person goes around telling people it's a real GT-R. I'd have much more respect for the person grounded enough to be truthful about it, whilst showing the work done to make it what it has become. I find it sad that the ER34 GT-T has always been treated as a base for a GT-R replica, because they are still a great car in their own right. Also what many fail to realise, is the ER34 GT-T has a different floor pan to the BNR34 GT-R as it is RWD not AWD. The 2dr ENR34 GT-Four on the other hand, has the same floor pan with the GT-R as it is also AWD, meaning it easier to create a GT-R replica with GT-R running gear, and also provides the more authentic driving experience. The GT-Four is N/A only and the majority are the 4dr model, so the 2dr coupe models are pretty rare. If someone absolutely had to build a replica, this is the chassis to use.

It’s pretty standard for people to build replica cars. Especially when the original car is worth quarter million plus and you could build a higher performing car for a fraction of the price. It’s also pretty standard for original owners to get annoyed by it. Both people…. get over it, one of you has money the other doesn’t, both of you like the same car, same person, different life choices .

(Warning, long winded story ahead) This reminds me of my time at a tyre fitting company. In the UK we had a model of MkIV VW Golf called an R32 (not to be mistaken for the Skyline) and as a tyre fitter at the time I worked on quite a few of these as a tyre fitter as well as a service tech. Any who, on a quiet and sunny day we had a very young chap pull into our car park with a silver 4 door R32 MKIV Golf. As this was 2004/5 we commented on how much of a nice car he had and that he was quite lucky to own one at such a young age. This was while we were discussing what tyres he wanted and other services we offered etc... We were a little perplexed by the fact that he settled on budget tyres for, what was considered at the time in the UK, such a powerful car. Either way, I offered to drive his car in for him which he declined and drove it in for us instead. It was at this moment I realised that there was something not quite right with his car. All the body work was mint, the paint was factory, the wheels were not curbed, the exhaust tips were shiny and chrome and the car sat like an R32. What twigged to me that the car was not right were the brakes. Now, the car had rear disc brakes (relevant) but the front brakes looked hugely inadequate for what these cars made at factory power. As I jacked the car up, removed the wheels and THE SPACERS my initial gut feeling about this car was confirmed. It was a replica. What made this car and its owner very funny was I could over hear the owner talking to my foreman about his car and bragging about how fast it was and how well off he was to afford it etc... Well, when it came time to do the cars tracking and to drive it on the ramp I had to drive it for insurance purposes to get it on our 4 poster. I set the car up to be tracked then checked our data sheet for the tracking specs and depending on the exact spec of the car determined the tracking specs. As I knew the car was not a R32 (no 4wd system to be seen as well as the small brakes, tiny sump, etc) I shouted to my foreman to ask what the car was. The owner came out, having heard, and very proudly responded "an R32!" So I replied "no, what is it, really?" long pause "a 1.4..." It tuned out to be a base spec, 1.4 Golf with a R32 kit on it and a rear disc brake conversion. The owner was very, very quiet afterwards and stopped bragging. This explained why he did not opt for more premium tyres, not that that stops people these days..... Long story but I thought it was worth a share. I would have had way more respect for the guy had he been honest and not bragged but nope. Oh I do wonder how many people he tricked into thinking it was a real R32...

I tell them in return, "look again please because, it's not an Evo." I bought custom GT badges that seem like would come with the GT trim level. Nowhere on my car will you ever find anything labeled "Evolution." I'm dedicated and proud of what I am currently building.
