I took a few notes to brush up on, descending reflectivity core, and the 3 subdivisions of the mesoscale. Tornadoes are all about containment, to hold the winds in the circulation. It makes sense that the merger of storms would provide a ‘wall’ along with rotation that encourages tornado formation.

3:11 reminds me a lot of hurricane sandy. Obviously completely different weather systems, but it’s really interesting how they both intensified by merging* with another storm. *merging probably isn’t the right word, but it’s the best I can do at this point

We had a metereology club back in high school and I thought it might be interesting and the things I learned then have become valuable knowledge today and has helped me really understand what I'm looking at when a possible rotation is reported with a storm and has been pretty valuable in the past few years here in middle Tennessee. Basic understanding of doppler radar images and learning the signs of broad rotation, tightening rotation, signs of a debris signature etc. because it might cut down on some peoples tendency to sit out a tornado warning which is never ok but know if its certain a dangerous tornado is heading there way, or at least see the signs of that possibility.

Hi, extremely well done and informative. What do you think of Leigh Orf's explanation though, which has a different emphasis. He says that it is the horizontal vorticity entrained by the inflow channel that is, essentially, tilted into vertical vorticity in the updraft, thus being the main factor in tornadogenesis, with the RFD apparently serving as part of a confining boundary to guide this vorticity upward and vertical.
