That would make a very handy instrument for traveling or hiking.

First instrument I learned to play clawhammer on was a uke. It works very well! Also, I've loved this tune since I heard Emmet Lundy's take. That B part is really heavy.

Was expecting to sound like a toy. You did a wonderful job, and played it just as wonderfully. Yer a Helluva craftsman bud

Thanks, Gavin. It’s not super loud (could have made the top and back a little thinner), but it is what it is. I originally was going to make the neck and neck block all one piece with the sides attached to either side (similar to a Pollmann), but when I messed the sides up, I ended up making it with a dovetail and block. With the fingerboard being raised and the neck angled, it made the saddle and bridge a little higher than I wanted, but the action is fairly low. Could be a hair taller.

If you ever wanted to emulate the sound of a wax cylinder recording, this would be the trick setup. Gold Tone began with the Plucky, a funky-looking kids/travel banjo. This could fill its own niche. Giggle. Good name.

Thanks, Paul. I thought the Plucky’s were kinda neat when they came out. Considered getting one but never did. I guess when it boils down to it I’ll take my normal sized banjo over any others. I know with the shorter 11 1/2” scale that there’s not as much tension as it would be on a standard 13” scale soprano, so I’m sure that along with the tiny size of the body has a lot to do with the sound, plus some other dimensions, thicknesses, etc.

@@NoahCline It has a unique sound. I think it could find a place in certain instances in film soundtracks.

I've seriously thought about buying a soprano ukulele and putting those exact Aquila 5th strings on it to make my own mandolele. Happy to see that the idea could very well work :) Good tune!

I have an Ohana twelve inch scale uke. I put the high four strings from Rev. Willy's Mexican lottery strings. It is tuned to E,B,G and D. making it an octave guitar. No transposing required!
