Probably one of the best episode of the Hotline series!

I’m on year 13 of my photo-a-day. I started in 2011, and I’m 54 now. Thanks for the inspiration Noah. I also took a photo-a-day of my new born son for a year in 2014. None of these photos or movies have ever made their way to social media and never will 😌 Don’t get me started on missing days. I live in New Zealand and often fly to the Cook Islands on holiday. Have you ever wondered what crossing the international date line will do to your photo chronology? I’ve since standardised all my photos on NZ time, regardless of where I am in the world. Just so I don’t have to resolve the challenges around dates 😂

That’s awesome. One or two of my missing days is from crossing the international dateline :)

What an awesome episode. I loved the references you mentioned; some of them, like Karl Baden and Tehching Hsieh, I only discovered this year. It’s fascinating to see how different artists approach the concept of self-portraits and use them to explore themes that are deeply personal yet universally relatable. I think my idea with self-portraits was never about creating art, but more about documenting moments or experimenting with perspective. That’s why I find it incredible that you and so many others have transformed this simple act into unique works with meanings that go beyond the 'trivial' act of taking a self-portrait every day. It really opens my eyes to the depth that can be found in what initially seems like a straightforward practice.

I really loved this episode. I'm fascinated by art that tackles the passage of time. There's a location I drive past maybe once a month or every couple months that I've been photographing for 14 years in different ways with whatever camera I have at the time (Polaroid, phone, digital, film). Part of me wishes I took the same exact photo every time for cleanliness sake but I realized the photos are probably documenting me and my maturing photographic eye than the actual landscape itself. I need to call in again soon, I've actually got an end of the year question I want to throw your way.

Beautiful as always. Mike's tripod kid on lap idea reminds me of Rinike Djikstra's portraits of Almerisa, who she photographed 8 times over 11 years. Sometimes too many pictures smudges the passage of time, these eight pictures are incredible markers of a changing life.

Congratulations to Mike for those 17 years of daily photos, that consistency is really amazing :D. In May of next year it will be 6 years with my own everyday project. When I was a very small child I was a very inspiring boy, I loved watching videos about the passage of time in people, and when I found you in 2019 in your 12.5 years video when I was 12 years old, I was inspired by you and I started. May 10, 2019, I am very grateful :), now I'm about to be 18 in 15 days, time flies...

Hotline XXXX feels like the appropriate one to cover your Everyday project. I have no illusions you had hesitations about the topic and I think you did it justice. Really enjoyed the similar projects you highlighted too. Life is a life sentence. Wow.

Great episode. Perhaps the best one, but why rank them? They're all pretty good. I would love to see an everyday project printed on a series of flip books making the passage of time something you can hold in your hand. It's okay to steal this idea.

Thank you, Bill. This idea has been suggested. The economics might not be great on flipbooks.
