The furnace is from the 1930s I know because I have one in my house that's still working just fine I was even told by the oil company not to replace it because I wouldn't save enough money on the replacement to justify the expense

That's an old boiler at 12:06, not a warm air furnace (despite the label). It was originally heated with coal and then at some point was converted to natural gas. You can see the original cast iron radiators throughout the house.

I can only imagine how beautiful this home was when it was well cared for. I wish a salvage crew could go through and remove some of the beautiful and aged items that are irreplaceable. I saw light fixtures, doors, door hardware, a mirror and more that I would think could be of interest.
@hollymatthews51382 ай бұрын
Shame the houses in such bad shape. They need to get a salvage crew in there to take out all the doors and all the door hardware and especially the light fixtures from the dining room which are worth a lot of money.

What a shame it’s just the land that was brought and not the house , probably be demolished 😢love the original features , with the wood beams if feels like a typical Tudor home even though it’s 1930s love this video ❤

That Arco furnace is just like the one that scares Kevin McAllister in the movie “Home Alone” it would have been coal fired originally and later converted to run off oil. The door you opened at the bottom is where you would shovel the coal in to fuel it. As for that strange looking thing in the other room; that was a special laundry press which allowed you to wring the water out of wet clothes and sheets before dryers were invented.
@thestars3862 ай бұрын
I haven't seen that movie in a long time. Oh the good old days, with that furnace and with the clothes wringer.

I've always wanted to ask - Do you ever rescue plants that are still alive from abandoned homes? That plant at the entrance looked like it was still alive - granted, it may be fake, but succulents are crazy resistant to drought, so...
@EdgyEspresso2 ай бұрын
I wish there was a way they would let restoration companies at least take the doors to preserve them and use them on other projects.

This comment got my wheels spinning. This could be profitable for you, Noah, if you connected with a couple reclaim places. You find the houses. Tell them or show them the footage. They do what they need to reclaim. You get 10% of the profits for the reclaimed items sold from those houses.

I believe the one door you couldn't open on the second floor was to the attic. With the original door handles on those doors you would place your thumb on the part over the handle and push down that released the latch mechanism on the door to open it. Too bad, a once beautiful house could have been restored, and been a beautiful updated home it was certainly built good. Thanks Noah for showing us this 1920's gem.

Unfortunately, in some cases like this I would suspect that when the house was abandoned it may have needed a roof soon. The nails in the roofing push up out of the wood with the heat and cold of the seasons until water goes in around the roofing nails and starts dripping, rotting the roof boards. Then you get drips all over the house upstairs, which doesn't take long to go through the flooring into the downstairs areas. On top of that, without any heat in the winter time, moisture/ice would form inside all over the walls and then melt each time that it warmed up above freezing and the moisture would run down the walls onto the floors. Once the roof boards rot enough, a giant hole will form until it just caves in and it goes downhill from there. In the summer, heat would also cause its own damage to the previously water damaged walls and the whole thing just goes capoot within x years. This is why a lot of abandoned mansions owned by places like banks will actually keep the heating/ac running if it is centralized because they want to keep the house in good shape. If the water wasn't turned off to this house immediately after being abandoned, in the winter pipes may have broken in the walls, ceiling, floor, etc.
