The first answer was just perfect. I'm gonna add to it anyway. The way he said it was as though he was saying, chill, be cool about it, why are you building all this up and what are you building it up to. Start applying all these words and concepts instead of spending all your time formulating them. How do you know unless you apply them and learn from them? And words change. Same old problems we'v had, have and always will, there's no final solution, you have to handle the problems in the moment

Interesting talk, except that Paul Volcker wasn't treasury secretary he was Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Professor Chomsky in his talk talks about neo liberalism and capitalism in one breath and at the same acknowledging cronyism isnt the same as capitalism without actually saying it. interesting.

"In 1963, he became deputy under secretary for monetary affairs. He returned to Chase Manhattan Bank as vice president and director of planning in 1965. Appointed by the Nixon Administration, Volcker served under secretary of the Treasury for international monetary affairs from 1969 to 1974." "Served as the 12th chairman of the Federal Reserve from 1979 to 1987"

@mikallr People hate to be ruled. Most researchers nowadays thinks people are not made to be ruled. Many hunter & gatherers don't even have a word for boss in their own language.

Comments can't be edited; they can be /deleted/--as i said--and reposted. Again, if you're going to be insulting, at least make sense. You accuse me of supposedly misinterpreting your words as directed at me, yet you clearly were talking to me, i.e. "you." then you whine about sarcasm when i point this out. odd. you can whine about "intellectual maturity," or you can back up your inflammatory rhetoric and name-calling with some actual substance....

The main problem I see with this video is that at the end, people still depend on one person (Chomsky) to tell them what to do instead of taking the initiative and figuring it out for themselves. People won't be free because they always, always return themselves to subjugation. Revolutions are just transitions between one ruler and the next.

I don't know of anybody who claims that they like to be ruled. So I agree with you. However many people believe that authority (or "ruler-ship") is still a good thing sometimes. I don't like having the police telling me what to do. But I am happy that they're there to protect me from criminals. I don't like laws telling me to slow down on the road but I know that they're good because some people will drive at crazy speeds that could result in the death of some innocent person. Some, like myself, obey laws and law makers not because we like the laws but because we know that they will create a better environment for everyone.

Someone's angry. Do you legitimately believe that using inflammatory rhetoric and name-calling proves your point? Quite the opposite. "We are in a period of corporatization of power, consolidation of power, centralization. That's supposed to be good if you're a progressive, like a Marxist-Leninist. Out of that same background came three major things: fascism, Bolshevism, and corporate tyranny. They all grew out of the same more or less Hegelian roots. It's fairly recent."

If you're going to be insulting, at least have it make sense. You said: "YOU think his version is somehow from Hegel, or Hitler, someone else maybe?"--then you said "The fact that you translated my words as accusations against you, shows you need work on your reading comprehension". If I'm not the "you", then who exactly were you talking to? He isn't a "Marxist in disguise"--there is a difference between libertarian socialism / anarcho-syndicalism / social anarchism and Marxism...

Again, you've clearly never read his harsh critique of Marxism; he has described Marx as a "highly authoritarian activist"--not a "crazy person" as you claim--because of Marx's desire for a State composed of the "dictatorship of the proletariat" (which is ultimately replaced by a Stateless society). you're accusing me of thinking that Chomsky's belief system is somehow based on /Hitler/? where do you get this nonsense? do you have any evidence, or /anything/, to back up your wild claims?
