Adding the skip to time stamp is frick'n awesome! Thanks man.. I'm looking to find a way to nest a window family into a Door family and haven't been successful so far and thinking its probably not even possible. My firm redevelops old mill buildings and due to the National Parks guidelines we have to retain existing masonry openings so having a 8' wide by 11' tall opening is pretty common. When they are at grade we are allowed to add a door but must retain the historic window we typically install the door to one side and fill the remaining side and area above the door with windows kind of like a jigsaw puzzle. This compounded by arched openings that are typical for these old textile buildings. I started working with curtain walls but failed miserably.

For historic Renovations I really think your firm will need to ID the most used family types (with regard to the typical buildings you are working with) and put time and resources towards generating the families from scratch. It is a lot of work front end but saves a lot of time and money down the line, particularly if it is a commong project type for your firm. Going external to a third party family creator might be the best balance of cost, time and quality of resources developed. Thanks for the positive feedback, I appreciate it :) Niall

Unfortunately, I ran into several issues that you indicated in this video. And as I work with multi-story buildings with 4 units per floor, where all are identical but mirrored, I always come across "unpleasant surprises". By standard procedure I create a unit that is mirrored by the central axes of the building. To simplify the process and avoid errors when mirroring I usually do independent groups. One composed by the pumbling fixtures and furniture parts, wich I don't mirror them. And another one with the walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows and rooms. However, even if i get no error warning, it is very common for some rooms to disappear from one of the group's instances. So eventually i end by removing the rooms from the group

Hi Stevo, I use a Logitech C920 Webcam. Does the job but there are cheaper options that would get you by. Depends on the quality you need to get to. I love your videos. Would you have a separate group for the exterior walls if the shell consists of one unit mirrored to the other side? Or is it advisable not to group exterior walls? And if so, why do you think?

Thanks for the video! incredibly helpfull! ive got one question regarding one of the points you made. in particular tip 5. do you mean by this that everything that is in a certain group needs to be on the same level, but you can afterwards use the group on different levels? or do you mean dont even try too use groups on different levels at all, for example by copying to selected levels.

Hi Bas, glad you found it informative. Great question - I specifically meant that everything within a single group should be associated to the same level (for example, you would not want a wall on the ground floor and a wall on the first floor within the same group instance) The group itself can be copied to other levels after this without issue and is very effective in doing so, such as for hotel rooms, apartment layouts etc. Hope this answers the query for you Bas. using revit 23 for a multifamily project and trying to add lights for electrical to copy monitor for wiring/switching to. created a ceiling hosted family and some units stack, ceilings are groups copied to each level and read associated to the correct level but get the error about fix groups when adding the lights to some ceilings. tried the nudge up and nudge down but didnt work. any other suggestions

Would it be prudent to "reveal constraints" and unpin/delete all constraints to external geometry prior to group creation?
