Born in New Zealand, Dr Visser remains the only researcher specializing in orca in New Zealand waters.
Her research officially began in 1992 when she embarked on her life-long dream to study the orca. Since then she has worked with orca not only around New Zealand, but also in the waters of Antarctica, Argentina and Papua New Guinea.
Dedicated to protecting the orca, Dr Visser believes in making science 'consumable' for the general public and as such she is often seen out in the community giving talks about these incredible apex predators.

Although I wasn't there on the day nor am I a professional in any way, from what I can tell it is actually Dr.Visser who was 'riding' the Orca but it wasn't intentional. She was gripped at the fin when they were trying to push the Orca back towards the ocean and it suddenly took off, if she had let go immediately she would have been likely dragged and crushed beneath the large creature and the ground beneath, or even bashed repeatedly by the fluke. You will notice that the Doc is waving her arm out and I must admit, it looks like she is putting on a show but she is actually signalling to nearby professionals that she was about to let go and they needed to go in after her (just a precaution in case something did happen to her) and attend to her if need be. Also, this Orca they saved is one that Dr. Visser has interacted with on many occasions and is a member of a pod she has been researching for many years. If you look at other videos of her research you will see that she actually goes swimming with these Orca and they often approach her, interacting and even allowing her to touch them. So I honestly don't think the Orca would have minded and probably would have done it for anyone who had just saved their life. One thing that everyone needs to remember is that these creatures are not dangerous, at least not to us. What has been seen on television with certain companies and such is the result of captivity and they are often portrayed as violent creatures. I am not going to go into detail as there is plenty of information you can look up on the internet about it. Again, honestly I just think everyone did a great job, especially those who got in there and helped as much as they could and of course those who stayed back to allow room for the professionals to save the Orca.

StevenSuperStar91 well said :) I also think when you do the maths of their comparative weights you realise how insignificant her weight on the orcas back would be - conservative estimate the orca might be 1500kg, say Ingrid is 70kg (probably less) - she weighs less than 5% of its body weight, that’s the equivalent of me carrying a 2kg handbag... not exactly a huge hinderance

If she had let go of him she would've likely been hurt. You cannot simply see something and not understand what they need to do behind the scenes. You're just judging from a perspective that doesnt tell a lot

Yes they like to judge Dr Visser, especially Loro Parque with their silly yellow homepage!! She saves so many orca's, why is it important what happend at the end?? She and other's saved the animal and everybody know's how redico!ous SW, Loro Parque and other's who are getting sued from Dr Vissee and Co hate her. I was shocked when I read the article of this sh..whole Loro Parque about her!! But it only showe's their dssperation. Dr Visser and her college's did amazing work qnd I am a proud supporter of her!! (orca seapen). I hope these greedy crimunal's will give up the orca's. You can see how greed, they are when you look back to Alexis death!! But Ingrud saved a life AGAIN!!!! 🏆🏆🏆

Great job rescuing the whale. Also terrible - why would you ride the whale? I respect Dr. Visser and disappointed about the person riding the whale.

i hope Dr.Visser really help the orca with her true heart but not to make tv show !i found she put more focus on the TV than the helping act 。

But if she doesn't share her thoughts or finding, how could we know more about Orcas? :) She raises awareness when going on TV interviews. Her team is mostly on donation, since rescue needs tool, facility, time, medical aid, if I were her, I will go for TV to get more attention, this is also good for Orcas or other animals whenever they needs help.

@ M Lee Did you do this since 30 year's?? Dr Visser has no normal life, it is ALL about the orca's!! The odasity to ask something like that show's your not existing common sense!! Normal people FIRST do their own research and THAN ask question's!!🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

What story? What has that to do with rescuing a beached orca? Seems like you have an agenda of some sort. I wonder what it is?? Hmm. Let me think...

@@guyskillen The story you are bringing up all the time, Keiko. Qnd by the way Morgan was NOT beached. Her lod would have waited for her like they always do. 2 Fishermen said she was in their net, but the family would not have left her in this situation, too. Think for yourself.
