Mind blowing research, amazing how the mountain of knowledge accumulated by others over the decades led to this incredible development. I have a science and math background but this stuff just puts me in absolute awe. I was in total shock when I found out that her fellow Nobel laureate, Jennifer Doudna, graduated from the same high school I went to, Hilo High School in Hilo, Hawaii 21 years after I graduated. I find it incredible that a Nobel Prize winner walked the same halls and sat in the same classrooms I sat in. What these women accomplished will have an unbelievable impact on all mankind in the years to come long after we are all gone. I thank all of them for their contributions, esp. the Nobel laureates.

Emmanuelle is a smart woman that worthy to earn a lot of respect from me.

Congratulations! What I really loved about her was that she was talking with confidence and that is what being a scientist requires. I was really inspired by her invention of Crispr (genetic "scissors") and I am definitely looking forward to some more from you and Jennifer Doudna in the future. Once again, toutes nos félicitations!

Truly brilliant research with infinite possibilities for good (and bad) uses, hope this work continues to bring new information to the scientific community everywhere. Congratulations to Doudna and Charpentier for the highest honour that science can bring. Rosalind Franklin pioneered this research, and sadly died before a Nobel prize was awarded to others who were not gracious enough to acknowledge her contribution.

This is a tough GACT to follow, but well worth repeating. Seriously, the chemistry between this impressive TAG team of Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier that led to one of the most important discoveries of the 21st century is truly amazing. The ethical considerations once seemed to be purely academic, but now that the ability to edit the blueprint of life is a reality, the enormity of these implications is overwhelming. The greatest achievement of the 21st century will be the responsible application of this technology.

The gender-related comments here are certainly intended to be kind and supportive, which is lovely. However, they point to some insidious societal habits. If a man talks about his nobel prize-winning work, no one comments on his looks or takes any note of his confidence. And people typically use his professional title rather than first name. Of course Dr. Charpentier is confident in her work, she is the top expert in world-changing science discoveries!
@charles75623 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. All those people are doing is patronizing her and treating her like a shiny object. Maybe those people would be more interested in the science if they actually understood a word of her research.

How to be nominated for a Nobel Prize
@mathewtuah223 жыл бұрын
Only if your works were recognize, and already been published publicly. You can't nominate yourself. The only people that can become a nominator to nominate the nomination is the highest community in university (professor, president, chancellor), state man or any country's leader, people that already won nobel prize, and the nobel committees.
