I am a scottish girl and I am so glad I was able to pick this up and learn to sing it by heart. Its a shame that many schools dont teach our language and I have done my best to learn bits and pieces. I wish I was fluent in my country's native language.

Pixar never ceases to amaze me. The terms in Finding Nemo were actual Dentistry terms. The wood turner in the witches cabin is a well used wood working tool. But this song takes the cake. It was made by Pixar in Gaelic. You don't see this level of depth in Disney, hell, the messed up voodoo in The Princess and Frog.

@andrewvanbeek15737 жыл бұрын
Here are a couple of rules that will help you out a lot. Usually, any word where the second letter is H, the letter preceding it is silent unless the first letter is either B or M, in which case the first syllable sounds like a V. Another letter combination to watch out for is GH. If a vowel follows it, the H is more emphasized and the G is almost but not quite silent, if a consonant follows it (such as L), the G is more emphasized.

I love this song and I applaud your work in researching the accents and spelling. I know Scots Gaelic and, just for future reference, you have "fhéin" with a stràc gheur (also known as a síneadh fada in Irish Gaelic) whereas it is supposed to be "fhèin" with a stràc throm (or grave accent). Irish Gaelic uses the fada (acute) for accents and emphasis, and Scots Gaelic uses the grave accent. Although, there are very very few instances where Scots Gaelic uses the acute accent, the word "fhèin" is not one of them. But thank you for looking into trying to get the spelling and accents correct! :)

It's funny to see your translation/ sounding of my country's Gaelic language. You're very good for someone who is not from Scotland. I must congratulate you on that because it is a very difficult language to learn and even pronounce especially if you aren't from celtic regions. I noticed you put a lot of "v"s when it's actually pronounced with a "b" or "m" especially in the last line. I am very please with this though and I hope you pursue learning Gaelic :) 's math a fhuaras tu!

well, gaelic in all its many forms is one of the many celtic language.the celts were an were a people indiginous to all but western europe until the migrated that way. but before they did, they existed mainly in the central part of europe.very close to the germanic tribes in many case and around the same time period. so some of the words in all the celt tounges may very well be slighty german in manner,early german.
