Considering what the studio had to go through (pandemic, war, moving the studio to Prague, data leaks, constant hacker attacks, and enormous pressure), I'm even pleasantly surprised by the state of the game. It's nowhere near as badly optimized as Cyberpunk 2077 was at release. The most important thing is that Stalker 2 has retained everything we love about the original trilogy 🥰

The bugs and optimization make this game great for people who played the original Stalker games upon release. Few will understand this statement but stalker 2 is the first game to have me hooked since Elden ring and they have much similarities. In both Elden ring and stalker you get rewarded for exploration. Both give you the excitement of discovering new gear, weapons and spells (artefacts in stalker) to level up your character. Sure in stalker we don’t lvl up but we get better gear, weapons and upgrades to be better equipt to fight the zone. im like 30+ hours in but probably 1/4 of the main quest done lol.

Long time Stalker fan here too, even though I got into it a little late, when they released Call Of Pripyat, I saw the trailer and immediately said okay I have to play this, and bought Shadow of Chernobyl and then Clear Sky and then Call of Pripyat...then I got into the mods, Misery, Autumn Aurora, Anomaly, and played them all for over 300+ hours, some 500+ hours. And now Stalker 2 is here and I can see myself dumping 1000+ hours into it without ever getting sick of it and playing another game! I knew GSC would deliver with this, even though so many games up to this point releases in a trash state and people were skeptical, I knew GSC would do this game justice....and they went through hell to bring it to us! I can't believe we actually got this game after what they went through making this game, they deserve GOTY and a medal for most dedicated developer ever for continuing to make this game for us through a war, relocating their studio, a office fire, being hacked, and so much more......they knew how much this game meant to their fans and the fact they let nothing stop them to bring it to us is insane! They deserve more than the the price for this game, I wish I could have gotten the ultimate physical edition, hopefully they do another release of it cause I want to support them more than just the price of the game that I pre bought years before release. They gave us a phenomenal game that holds up to it's predecessors and released it with mod support! These guys are gods in the gaming world right now! And until someone else does more than them, they will always be!

I had never played the original games but I’ve watched a lot of people play them on KZbin and it looked like it was right up my alley. I’m not sure how those games didn’t make it on my radar when I was younger and had the time to play video games. I homeschool my six sons and just don’t really have the time to sit down and play games like I used to. I’m still adding to my steam library because eventually we won’t have toddlers anymore and I will have the time to play. I did start up the game and played through a bit of the tutorial to see how it looked on my PC and it made me even more excited. Perhaps most of the bugs will be fixed by then. I also want to wait until there are some more mods available for the game. I think it’s a travesty that there is no Mosin Nagant, SKS, or even AK47 rifles available in the base game.

Also yet another bittersweet reminder how far America, with her corrupt capitalism, has fallen in another category (entertainment).

I've really enjoyed Stalker 2 (it's taking some getting used to). Playing Gray Zone Warfare and Escape from Tarkov a little bit helped me get used to M&K. so assuming Call of Pripyat came out in 2009, i'd assume that this game began developement in either 2010 or 2011. Unreal engine 4 came out in 2021, and 5 came out in 22. So this game most likely started out being on a proprietary engine, most likely built off of the Xray Engine they built from the first 3 games. I'm not sure why on earth they would build a game on that engine for 8+ years, and then rebuild it on UE4, only to have to port it over to UE5 2-3 years later, but i'm almost positive that this is the cause for most of the issues surrounding this game. Black myth wukong is one of the only UE5 games currently out that exists nearly flawlessly. Game science, the studio who made wukong, actually sent all if their engine developers and lead programmers to epic games studios to study with members of epic games' UE5 division. GSC essentially was working with an engine that is already pretty finicky in the first place, with next to no knowledge about the game engine or the Epic asset store, and said "fuck it, we'll make it work eventually". It sucks because its such a good game that has such aggressive issues. I could overlook A-life 2 not being in the game pending fixes IF the game ran like butter, but it doesnt. My computer is a 4070ti Super with an i9 14900k. I can play cyberpunk, forza horizon 5, Microsoft flight sim, RDR2, and metro exodus all on peak graphics in 4k without coming close to peak utilization. This game? This game makes my cooling fans sound like F35 jet engines at full scream, and my computer has now become the sole heating unit in my household. Theres no excuses for the performance, and people can say Oh bUt UnReAL EnGInE 5. These problems aren't the engine, it's the game's coding.

I sympathise with console players with stick drift of course, and yes the game overall has issues. But if its this enjoyable already, imagine when it hits its final form?

I love the game and cannot put it down. I’ve got it on Xbox and it’s playing great. The amount of detail and fan service paid to veteran players of the trilogy is amazing and so refreshing. Seeing the old locations in Unreal Engine 5 is truly special.

I agree 120%, it's a phenomenal game, it kills me to see all sorts of videos on youtube knocking the game and saying that "it runs poorly blah blah blah", update your PC or shut up, muppets trying to run this game with 2016 components, The same dummies knocking this game I've seen in the past praising Starfield 🤣figure that one out

They could balance the repair system a bit better, way to expensive. And hard to make coupons.
@ThePieceofmeat2 күн бұрын
Well that's part of the difficulty. You level up through your gear, and game prevents you from doing it too quickly. Take shitty arms and costumes for exploration of nearby territory, close to villages, and throw them away after they totally break, don't put too much money into upgrading early game costumes, take all decent loot to trader if you're not going to use it yourself. I'm 40h in on Stalker difficulty, and hoarded 200k+ coupons with relative ease

@@ThePieceofmeat This issue seems to be something that’s bothering many people from the very start to the end, so its not just sompthing that should be expected of a certan playstyle to have to work around it. People want to play the game, some people aren’t interested in selling anything or maybe they don’t want to side quest. Like why cant i use a broken gun to fix another broken gun? Im not saying its fixed to 100% but at least to a point where i could sell it, the quests just dont pay enough to cover the cost of bullets. Not trying to be rude but like me and others once you get past the start it's gets VERY EXPENSIVE when 10% dmg on 2 items is costing 30k plus and so on
@ThePieceofmeatКүн бұрын
@@exoticspeedefy7916 I got your point, my "look into every single box and take everything you can lift to a trader" is a playstyle not suitable for everyone indeed. Repairing broken guns with another broken guns would be nice, but I doubt it will be implemented in original game without mods. At least repair prices and quest rewards are rebalanced in todays patch, hope you enjoy it!

@@ThePieceofmeat Having an on the go maintenance system would definitely help even if it doesn’t give the same results it should decrease the cost when you actually get it to a technician. That would also fit lore wise because stalkers are supposed to be self sufficient but we can’t maintain our gear ourselves.

Just rolled the credits on it and as a loooooonnnngggg time fan going back to the first ones it was everything I couldve asked for. Base anomaly was this stitched together thing of what a new stalker could've been with what was left over from the originals, this game felt like all of those hopes of what they wanted to do and it's fucking fantastic. Will be putting it well over 1000 hours into it as mods and updates come.

For people comparing it to far cry, the gunplay has no gun deviation as anomaly, and itself has world building, lore, atmosphere, reactive side quest, random encounters, enemy variety, interactive environment (anomalies), customization, etc..

I'd point out, almost all software is licensed to you the user, except that which is in the public domain. Unless the license specifies that it is non-revocable, which is unlikely for non open source software, then it can be revoked. What makes GOG useful, it's not that you "own" the software, because you don't. It's that if you have the installer around, in order to enact the revocation publishers/developers would have to take you to court to get a court order to force you to delete the installer, since once the license is revoked, you would then be in breach of copyright laws, and thus they would be in their legal right to do that. But as you can probably guess, taking an individual to court can be pretty costly, and for single copy of the game is rarely worth the cost.

On the topic of modding stalker, the first game benefited greatly to the modding community because it extended the game's replayability for SO LONG. Much of stalker 2 actually feels like I'm playing modded stalker 1 already. So, when I looked up recently on what mods are already out for stalker 2, most are either changes to the graphics (usually to try and change performance) or changes to game balancing (economy and difficulty). On the topic of economy, money is in certain situations easy to come by if you find good spots to "farm" human patrols near a place to sell the loot (I farmed 100k in the south part of Cordon pretty quick) but that money is easy to go. New armor ate like 200k. xD I don't have too much of a problem with that, it is very on theme with the setting tbh. Balancing is a bit different. Human enemies are a bit of a weird topic, I don't mind the heavy use of grenades as IRL grenades are HEAVILY used in actual combat. The AI is also kinda derp at times so you could just sit there and snipe them if they didn't regularly try and flush you out. Mutant enemies; however, are a whole other can of mystery meat. Bullet sponges with very good AI, very fast, maneuverable, hit hard, and no profit for killing. Heck sometimes you can't even break aggro and they will follow you forever even if you break line of sight and lose them through terrain. I feel like they were intended as "money sinks" and while later on you can get some really strong guns that can kill faster, the patrol spawn system makes it a big RNG gamble that a pack of bloodthirsters would spawn behind you and cost you like 10k in ammo and repairs.

Released an unfinished game with lots of bugs and an entire mechanic that doesn't even work? Seems to be doing what most devs do these days honestly. If this was any other game it would be reviewed into the ground for such a poor release. Fanboys are the only reason this game has any chance right now. While I hope they fix the game because I want to play it as intended I'm not delusional about it's current state.

Last time I felt this way was playing Frostpunk 1, and one before that playing Shadow Warrior 2. And going even further back it was Fallout 3/New Vegas and Stalker games. I needed Stalker 2, just so I can have that FEELING again. This hits the spot perfectly as I can again call my self a gamer :D I cant explain it, but there is this exciting interest with a good portion of fear. All the gaeming studios should hire scientists to try to understand what is it. Love this game!

The best thing Devs did is easy mod support. I run about 30 essential mods that make the game much more enjoyable. So modders save this game and bridge it until big patches and DLC are coming out, aka the game actually finished. They pressured themselfs in releasing before christmas but alot of stuff suggests they should have taken more time to make it " perfect" from the start... But you are right in terms of worldbuilding/ map design/ atmosphere this game is great, and many out-of-bounds objects suggests there is even more planned. But then also not getting A-Life right is a sin for many...
