This is true. Took me a while to figure it out. You should hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Personal story: a few years ago during a snowstorm, my electricity went out. It was very cold. I called 911, and homeless shelter. None of them would help me. 911 told me they were telling people to shelter in place, but did give me rescue squad number, but they had to have somewhere to take me. The homeless shelter refused me outright. The woman said I had to have a Covid vaccine, then she refused me outright. I sort of got a warm place to go, but the rescue squad didn't answer the phone. I have since then got a kerosene heater in case that happens again. Don't depend on anyone. Don't depend on your family. Don't depend on hospitals, churches, 911, police, or any other organizations. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

It’s been a long road but here I am this semester taking calc 3 and differential equations. Once I changed my mindset I realized that was what was holding me back. Life is ruled by entropy. You seemingly always have to put in twice the effort -- and get back just half of what you expected to get. If you understand this and don't let it get you down, you'll still be in the game for those breakthrough moments when entropy takes a break and you do get lots out of your efforts.

@ The same way you make your car work for you by filling the tank with gasoline. Before the car became a car, it was a bunch of minerals on the soil. Man, with his knowledge of how these minerals work together aligned with the laws of nature, created the car and the car served humanity along with every invention man has come up with. You study how nature works, then, you can make nature work for you by establishing a causal chain that leads to where you want to go and obtain. The more knowledge, the more mastery over it.

In high school I blamed the teachers for where I was and what was about to happen to my life. After a few years I thought back and I realized that I could have changed everything. I decided not to stay late when it was offered. I was the one who reacted to teachers trying to help like I was being punished. I remember, while watching a teacher helping a student understand a chemistry problem, telling the student how to solve the problem. The teacher looked at me and asked why I wasn't in that class and I answered sarcastically and bitterly, "because I'm bad". My thought years later is that if a tree falls on your house, you move the tree and fix the house. If you can't do that, pay for somebody to do that. If you can't pay someone, you have to do it yourself. It may not be easy getting your house in order and it might take a while but, with effort, you can do it. Mind you getting help and being saved are two entirely different things, you need to know the difference between a lack of skill and an inability. Learning is generally a lack of skill before it is a lack of ability.

Agree with your message from the bottom of my soul, my journey towards success in math was after I failed my calc class 1st year in college cause I relied on a friends help who ultimately stiffed me when it came time for finals, I failed that class but it pissed me off so much cause I knew I had it in me but was lacking effort. Needless to say I came back the next year and aced the course and it was the catalyst that changed my life. Sometimes our greatest failures are our best lessons, they give us the motivation to push off to launch us into a new trajectory

yeah the idea that you can't rely on others in a time of need is valid in the sense that is not infallable or without limitations but "nobody will save you" is kinda dramatic, doctors save people all the time for example, even strangers in public have saved the lives of others in various ways heck people even try to save other animals not just humans that is empowering and encouraging as well imo others are not necessarily indifferent to your suffering or need many can be, but not all and I would not say even most people are not like that even if it is also true that being self reliant is liberating and empowering as well

@ I don't even blame algos for the gamification rather than reflection of a very human tendancy to embelish for effect but that aside, telling someone in desperate need "nobody will save" is probably not advised if you are seeking to inspire or empower someone that feels they are struggling in isolation it could very well have the opposite effect and make them feel even more desperate and alone I think the idea is "nobody will save in perpituity" or the idea that if you are unwilling, rather than uable, to help yourself...then you should not expect others to be willing to help you without some effort on your part as well

3:47 overplanning is what killed most of my plans. I used to plan about everything, about my grand "comeback", which obviously never happened. The key, as you've mentioned, is just getting started, taking baby steps and find your flow somewhere along the process. I am actually quite fond of the idea that "nobody" is going to save me. It was a profound revelation to me. It was as if the world was my sketchbook, and I had a pack of crayons; everything depended on me, on what I did with my life. It was depressing at first but later it was a core philosophy I wanted to adopt in my life.

Very real and honest take. It reminds me of Ronnie Coleman weirdly 'everybody wants to be a body builder, nobody wants to lift no heavy ass weight'. How I see it, no plan survives first contract, often times the best way forward is to just start, as simple as a philosophy it is, we often times put up walls in our minds that stop us from just doing something, we are usually the ones holding our own selves back from failure and embarrassment.

I think its good to have reminders like these, we need negative and positive motivation. Sometimes doing something is better than having a clear goal to aim for or an exact profession or purpose. Just be productive and take action is better than doing nothing. Even if I never use my degree I rather just work on it rather than do nothing and think about it all the time.

People always say you are the main character in your story. But, you know, sometimes life just overwhelms you back to back. You have no one to lean on but yourself. But what if you've been told no so many times that the great person you thought you were, you believed to be a lie? You start believing what every one else tells you: you're nothing special in fact, you're the opposite. When no one else has your back and you really are the only one you can count on but that's not even good enough because sometimes we need someone to just be there for you. A quote from The last airbender's Iroh "While it is always best to believe in oneself, a little help from others goes a long way." Even indirect help like this video can be that one thing that somebody needed to hear. To know that someone out there has your back and wants you to succeed. I agree however that even still if that person doesn't exist, you must make the necessary sacrifices and steps to become that person at least for the next person is how I think.

Overthinking is a big point that can get in the way of doing what you set out to do. I used to have a bad habit of mentally solving all the problems in my textbook before I actually worked them out on paper. This led to mental exhaustion and made me less motivated to actually write out the full answer. I had to train myself to only focus on one problem at a time and it greatly decreased my mental fatigue allowing me to plow through math problems endlessly.

It's a practice of getting out of your head and into your body, so anytime you find yourself thinking, out of habit you will try to think yourself out of it, when it's simply about watching the thoughts pass by and not much more, and finding some movement or meditation to get more into your body. The thing is you problem-solve with your mind so it will feel like you are solving the problem of not thinking whenever you are thinking. If you are feeling "in your head", focused and not in touch with what's happening around you or in your body, that's when you are likely overthinking. But you cannot stop the thinking (some guru said that it's like riding a car with only accelerators and no breaks, trying to press the brake only makes the thoughts go faster), you can only get better at no longer trying to stop the thoughts and simply "being". Hope this helps.

This is so true, take baby steps. I'm studying for a IT cert. I read one chapter a week and lab the concepts. This is where going to college actually taught me. I had to find out what worked for me. How to learn is a super power. I'm a better person for it.

I spent most of my life riding and breeding horses. That teaches you to prepare for the worst at every moment. What’s always going through your mind is 'what, anthem worst that could happen if I do such and such' and you have to be prepared for the worst. If you don’t, you or the horse can end up injured or dead. It prepared me for a self sufficient life. I always think that way. I think kids who for up of farms probably learns this at an early age too. But kids who grow up without this sort of experience tend to think that there’s always a human there to help. In fact, this is how science works: come up with an idea and then look for what's possibly wrong with it. Try to break it and see what happens.

“I don’t have to justify myself to you, I don’t have to justify myself to anyone…” Francis - Malcom in the Middle Remember that in this life YOU have the option to do WHATEVER you want with your life. If you want you can let what’s troubling you prevent you from living a fulfilling life. No one is going to stop you. But remember at the end of the day no one is going to come check on you to see if you’re better. So if want to change your life, do it for yourself. Relying on other people is ok to grow but becoming whatever you want to be is much sweeter knowing you did it through sheer will power and effort on your own "Even in the darkest times, hope is something we give ourselves. I totally agree with you, however I have a comment to make here. Yes, you are your own saviour in relation to mathematics and actions, even more: nowadays with the internet you can find hints that show you how to solve some of the problems you encounter in what can be called core mathematics. There is a risk however: the internet, the phones, waste so much of your time so use the will power to focus your time on what matters, switch off the phone, don't use social media because they won't help you to overcome your hurdles, they will actually stop you in your progress. Your time is your life, don't waste it.

If you just wait to get saved, you will drown in the swamps. Everyone has to struggle. But after your inner fight you can sense your greatness within that existed in you all the time - and only threw this fight you were able to discover this greatness in you. You are grateful for being giving the chance to fight. And if you are a moral person with pure intentions you will be protected from above.✨💫✨

Strongly agree with you. It could be anything honestly for me was deciding to start working out and I did it alone and not relying on a friend to do so and that took me far the end results were astonishing. Now I'm a sole worker and working with people makes me feel like they are delaying me from whatever misson I want to accomplish

Not sure I agree with this. I don't think people underestimate their strength or ability. What stops them is fear. A lot of times they need nothing more than just reassurance from a loved one to help them face their fears. That is what constitutes 99% of "salvation". Some people are lucky enough to have one, others less lucky. To the latter, your message translates (or can be interpreted) as "accept there is no love in the world". That is not empowering, but disempowering. If there is no love to be hoped for, then what is the point of trying to accomplish anything? What's the goal? To stay alive for living's sake? What for? That's not much of a goal. It's a very depressing thought. It's not a message I would want to deliver to anybody. Love, or just hope for love, is what keeps most people going in any endeavor, and helps them endure. Sure you don't want to wait around, but you need to define a goal, and that goal must be hoped for, to focus our efforts, otherwise everything you do is just half-hearted trash. As Coleridge warned wisely: "Work without Hope draws nectar in a sieve, and Hope without an object cannot live."

Hey Master Sorcerer, I would like to know what words of wisdom and advice you have for handling failure. Specifically, when you start your big dream, you wake up early, you do the 1 thing you need to towards your big dream. But then the next day, you don’t wake up early. You get swept up by the currents of your day. (I’m commenting this before I watched on the video because it’s been on my mind).

I was very lucky in the job I had. I was part of a team of accountants, but made individual executive decisions regarding what I did with my time. Going out on audits, we'd pair up, but that was about it. Nothing to beat the 'sink or swim' of drawing up accounts for a client. The problems began when the Revenue Service took occasional exception to taxation matters I'd goofed on.

In spite of other people's advise not to do so, I enrolled for a Calc1 class this winter. A really short term, but I found out how to at least fudge my way through the homework and the exams to pass. However, I felt I was cheating myself by not really knowing how to solve the problems if I had to do any from scratch. So even though I could probably pass the class, I've opted to drop it and retake it over a longer term in Spring. Not exactly a motivational story and part of me regrets this since I felt I could probably pass even if I didn't learn much of anything in that process. Only time will tell if I made the right call.

Great go-get-em advice. However, there is a flip side. People can help you greatly, while they might not be able to "save you" per say, the hero of the story does often get saved, aided, and pushed along their journey. For example, you're helping people through your videos, and may have "saved" a few thousand people. Its surprising the things people will do for you just because of your positive attitude towards them. God Bless.
