I had to fast forward through the stuff with the little girl and the suitcase. This movie broke me. Good movie but too sad.

I adore Hirokazu Koreeda. Most of his movies I watch over and over again, in spite of the emotional gut-punch he puts into them. This movie though - only once. Absolutely devastating

Nice review dude, I just watched this on a whim recently and I thought it was extremely well done, it really drags you into the film world and makes you feel full empathy for the kids. It feels like you're looking through a portal into another real world and not at people acting, as a true movie should. The ending is quite harrowing and definitely sticks with you, but it should. Its a film which should have a heavy impact due to the themes it discusses.

It would have been nice if you put a " Spoiler Alert" at the beginning of your comment.

@@davidsheriff9274 no, you don't need to put *spoiler alert thing, when the movie is released in 2004. You should've been cautious!

This was the very first Japanese film I watched. Outside of anime. I believe I saw it somewhere about a year after the film first came out possibly the same year. I was 10 or 9 so it is possible. It was on some random cable channel and forever reason I watched it. I know the reason, just seemed similar, the whole situation but in a very different context. Anyway, I always held this film in high regard. Anyway great video, just got reminded of this film and you are 1 of the very few who even covered it. So thank you for that much
