"Nobody's Dead Arnold" with regraded Holly (improved)

In this segment of Skipper they went to lengths to recreate aspects of series 1, and I think that goes for Holly's appearance too (minus the blue-screen effect and that pixelated filter. Unfortunately, the way he was lit in this instance wasn't a good look, so I thought the poor chap could do with a bit of warming up. Hopefully this is something of an improvement.

Holly referring to them as "Dave" and "Arnold" always added a solemn kind of melancholy to the proceedings and is/was integral to the show imo. Almost like it was the voice of Death itself addressing them.

Wel it was their names. I always figured Lister and Rimmer called each other by their last names because of their mutual dislike of the other.

@@DomWeasel Good point. Todhunter and Kochanski too. Come to think of it I can't think of any instance where anyone referred to anyone by their first name apart from Kochanski calling Lister Dave, but I guess that one makes sense given their relationship.

@@chrishateley5582 In Polymorph when they've had their emotions drained and make their plan, Lister and Rimmer refer to each other as David and Arnold though in Lister's case it's sarcastic. And Rimmer calls him Dave during Marooned as well. There's a few other instances I believe.

The scene was done by having the audience watching the camera feed, so that they could get a genuine reaction to seeing Norman back on our screens. They really did not know Holly would return until the camera panned.

It really did. It's amazing what a difference lighting can make - he looks so much better in TPL, I sometimes hear people say he looks younger despite it being shot three years later.

So I guess this is technically the fourth time Norman Lovett's had to go through this scenario. First time during the original recording of the "Everybody's dead, Dave" scene when Holly was originally a voiceover. Second time when they reshot the scene after Norman moaned about wanting Holly to be seen. Third time when they later reshot Holly again for the remastered version. And now here in a parallel universe where Holly's telling Rimmer "Nobody's dead, Arnold." lol

I think I would describe series' 3-7 as more than a sitcom. It was a sci-fi adventure comedy. It gave great laughs and tried bringing bigger concepts.

There's a lot of really great episodes of later Dwarf that sadly get overlooked because people assume all post-Rob Dwarf is like 7 and 8, but Doug's come a long way as a solo writer since 1999, and I think Series 11, 12 (with one exception) and the feature-length special really bear that out.

There's a few pretty good episodes in 10, 11 and 12 worth checking out (Trojan, Samsara, Cured, Twentica, Give & Take, Officer Rimmer and The Beginning, to name my personal highlights) but I personally think the absolute cream of the crop is the feature-length special they did, The Promised Land. I cannot recommend it enough. For me and a fair few other people it's up there with classics like Back to Reality and Gunmen of the Apocalypse.

I've read all the novels, listened to the audio books, and I can assure you, everything after Season 6 is trash.... Just a fecking horrible cash grab , cashing in on our collective nostalgia. If you like them, good for you. I don't like them.
