@@sinusbradycardia yup ...and at 35 , was definitely no cherry pick .....they just didnt think ishida would come at him trying to set up a right cross from the very beginning .......also that 1st lefthook knockdown was right on the button.....but even that left hook was perpetuated by a right cross that Kirkland did not expect.

The commentators really seemed unprofessional, this it boxing...anything can happen at any given moment, just because the Japanese boxer didn't have as much KO's as Kirkland doesn't mean he doesn't have what it takes. Kirkland blamed the ref and said it was a bad call...knowing he should have been more prepared, getting knocked down 3 times from 15 punches that landed in under 2 minutes is embarrassing, no excuses.

I mean, I think it what they were saying was reasonable. They didn't have to belabor the point but still it was what hardcore fans were thinking. They are trying to fill in those watching on TV why they were so shocked to see what they were seeing. It's a surprise when a fighter with 6 KOs in 30 fights blasts through an opponent like Kirkland, who was a 30/1 favorite in this fight IIRC and who was then seen as a promising prospect, in just one round.

Yo everyone knows Kirkland’s problem had nothing to do with preparation. His problem was his loose baby neck. Seriously had the chin of a toddler that just had three beers. Blessed with that crowd appealing style but was given a glass chaw to level the playing field. Hey needed better defense meaning he should’ve been with Floyd Mathweather working on maybe avoiding some punches instead of eating punches like skittles. Riding a motorcycle without a helmet is just as fun as with a helmet but when you wreck you might want to wear it. I don’t know how Jesus camp didn’t address this issue way back. This wasn’t the first time he reacted like he got hit by Tyson. HBO didn’t do its research obviously.

Ishida's responses (to the best of my ability). The translator from Ishida's corner did a pretty good job, but I think he was having trouble coming up with the English words by himself on the spot. If you're Japanese and think I messed up, please correct me, the Osaka accent can be a little bit challenging for foreigners. Answer #1: I really was able to do it by following the fight plan Answer #2: I think that the other side underestimated me, and I was able to get in a short right punch...

A little food for thought: This is an undefeated Kirkland versus a weak punching guy who put his lights out like this. Canelo (a WAY bigger guy than Ishida) actually struggled against a shit version of Kirkland before finally managing to KO him. Kirkland was ALWAYS chinny but chinnier after this fight; Canelo fought him after and it took multiple flush power shots to finally stop Kirkland. Ishida had never been stopped in his career and is a tough dude. Ishida's only knockout loss is to GGG and it is probably GGG's most brutal one-punch KOs in his career. GGG hits harder than Canelo no question.

I think the fact it was his 3rd fight in 5 weeks and he just came off a war with a tough puncher and was supposed to walk threw this Japanese guy had something to do with it, he wasn't fresh, underestimated his opponent , and ounchvresitsnce went from fighting the Columbian. Staying fresh and picking opponents wisely is important Kirkland wasn't prepared . Anyone can be beat styles makes fights .

This could very well be the biggest FAIL in boxing history. Listen, a guy who is 27-0 with 24 KO's, young, strong and up and coming gets knocked out by a guy with 6 losses and only 7 KO's in 22 wins. I mean, even Buster Douglas had a shot against Tyson because he had power. This was TOTALLY unexpected. NO ONE could ever say that they honestly though Ishida had ANY chance at ALL.

There's something comical about this..Kirkland walks on to every single punch. Then the ref bundles him down when he's actually up off this ass!

That ref was dumb. Stopping the fight is one thing, but why tackle a guy when he's getting up at the count of 1?

The idea of Kirkland fighting Golovkin is just absurd. GGG destroyed this Japanner in 3 rounds.

Wow. Only 15 punches landed for Ishida and 3 of them were able to knockdown Kirkland.

The fuck is wrong with Kirkland? Goes for the body early on misses 9 out of 10 of his jabs to Ishida's head- doesn't circle out after throwing punches, stood in the pocket with a weak head movement game and got countered by a C-level knockout artist? Kidding me? Shit....He has the power he just needs to work on the fight IQ

Im still amazed that he was able to ko kirkland when kirkland was able to withstand angulo's, joel julio's, and glen tapia's punches and hes still the only one that beat kirkland

James Kirkland also never had a great chin, in his last fight before this one, he was wobbled/stunned by a no name irrelevent journeyman with a good K.O. ratio, but a horrible record. That was a preview to what happened here. The taller Ishida caught Kirkland with a few swift, clean, crisp punches that all landed flush on Kirklands chin. P.S.-sorry for all the comments.
