You guys are probably JRPGed out for some time but I urge Jesse and Jeremy to check out one of the SMT games someday. I've played SMT IV last year and i mirrored so many of your points when talking about it. The battles are insanely fast to the point of being addicting. SMT IV in particular is mostly 2D in battles so they just skip most animations and go straight to hit effects. Metaphor is basically a mix of SMT and Persona (the battle system is more or less SMTs Press Turn system for example) so if Metaphor was the cure to Jeremy's Persona intolerance, SMT is basically pure distilled gluten-free goodness. And the atmosphere! They're dripping with it. Turns out Atlus has always been catering some of their RPGs to absolute sickos.

SPOILERS FOR METAPHOR* The Utopia of "our world" in Metaphor is just that. Its fiction. The people living in that "utopian" world ultimately destroyed themselves. Its explicitly pointed out multiple times too. The game is saying that its good to strive for Utopia while also accepting that it can never be real. The ultimate message of the game is that we should always fight against despair and nihilism by focusing on bettering our current world by uplifting all its people. Its strange to see so many people misinterpret the message as "The fantasy world is fucked up and racist while our world is perfect".
