Tech tip. Vibration kills today's cheap internals on batteries. Any kind of vibration isolation say on a mower is worth it. High Density foam goes a long way.

I mounted a noco genius 2D in my truck engine bay. I used the included bracket, but I used 3M vhb double sided tape instead of the sheet metal screws. I was concerned about rust forming around the screws.

The video linked above will show the status lights and how they look as it chargers and when it is just maintain. Skip to 10:23.

Thanks for the thorough update/review. Have you found it's pretty weather-sturdy? I live in southern California so thankfully we have it pretty mild. I need a solution for my Ford Maverick Hybrid which has a parasitic draw that the dealership cannot locate/resolve. I'm thinking this might be just perfect - especially love the mount.

Weather seems to have no affect on it so you should be good to go. That terrible that you have to deal with an electrical draw on a new vehicle. I would not be a happy camper. I wish you luck with this issue and hope ford takes care of you.

Hi there, if you install a charger\maintainer yourself make sure to connect the negative eyelet on a conductive part of the chassis or an existing chassis ground, not the battery post directly just like most added accessories. That way the energy going in\out the battery is measured by the Battery current sensor and the car's charging system can calculate the battery state of charge properly and adjust accordingly. It's especially important with AGM batteries as their Achilles heel is gassing. Best luck with your parasitic current draw though, I really hope it's not the dealership screwing you over by being lazy and\or dishonest. :(

The question is how long can the 12 V repair button blink red, because we have been blinking for 3 hours and does not switch to charging. Will it continue to flash during the entire recovery mode?

Thank you for your review. Regarding mounting Genius 5 on the car - I believe it's not intended for this, based on operating and storage temperature limits (according to manuals). G5: "Operating Temperature. This product is designed to work in ambient temperatures between -4°F and 104°F (-20°C and 40°C) ... The storage temperature is -22°F and 140°F (-30°C and 60°C) (average temperature)." G2D: "Operating Temperature. This product is designed to work in ambient temperatures between -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to +60°C) ... The storage temperature is -40°F to 212°F (-40°C to 100°C) (average under-hood temperature)" So clearly G2D have much wider temperature ranges, which is quite important for under-hood using.

I have had the genius 5 mounted under the hood of my ram 1500 for 3 years now. I have aftermarket alarm system and dash cams that record around the clock so my truck has to be plugged in if not driven for 5-7 days or the battery will die. And the noco 5 still works as well as it did the day I bought it. I bought the noco plug extension and Mounted it to the plastic trim under the front bumper. And the noco is secured the upper driver side corner under the hood above the battery with zip ties. Positioned so I can access the buttons and see the lights easily. Looks good and it serves me well.

What I would do in your mustang would be to extend the eyelid's socket so that it can be plugged in thru the grill or a fender maybe, so that you don't even have to pop the hood open at all, nice vids

Ordered one couple days ago and it arrived today. Bought it for my gt350. I have Schumacher units that seem to not play nice with the OEM Motorcraft that is on there. Also going to try the repair feature on a battery that came out of my son's 2015 v6 Mustang that died prematurely. Gonna charge it up first and run repair 2x and will be curious of the result. I may also pick up the 10 as a 2nd unit. Saw your other vid from 6 - 7 months ago which was extremely informative.

Hi there, if you're taking about the 1.5 amps charger\maintainer it's basically a glorified trickle charger. If you open them up you'll find a puny circuit board in there (it almost looks cute, it's so tiny!!). NAPA sells one too and they are both made by the same company, the outside sticker is the only difference. It's a pretty average product overall and does not have a float mode once the charging process is done.

@@samuhell14 How is this not float mode (from the manual)? After the battery is fully charged, the charger will continue monitoring the battery, and provide ongoing maintenance and optimization. The 100% Charge LED will pulse “on” and “off” slowly during these cycles. The charger can be left connected to the battery indefinitely.

Quick question, if an extension cord is needed - what type/gauge would you recommend? Is there a particular type or preferred length that works best. I may have to run the unit from an apartment complex patio plug. TIA.
@natemarcy3939
@natemarcy3939 11 ай бұрын
Any outdoor rated 14 gauge extension cord should be good. I would recommend a plug cover if it is going to be in the weather at all. This will keep the gfci plug on the patio from tripping due to moisture. All outdoor plugs are GFCI protected due to the weather exposure. Last thing you want is to find out it wasn't charging because the GFCI plug on the patio tripped. Here's a link to a plug connection cover. Hope this helps!!! amzn.to/3F4NmtJ

Yes you would need to discount from one another because there are separate modes for each one so they need charged separately.

My NOGO Genius 5 Killed my brand new 2023 Porsche Turbo … it put the battery into Safe mode… flat bedded the car to dealer. They got battery back. PUT GENIUS 5 back on and it killed the lithium battery again… put it into safe mode. Charger was in lithium mode . The charger finished one bar and started second bar ..failed .. junk Bought CTech charger Perfect !!!

That's interesting. Did you ask the dealer why that may have happened?
@samuhell14
@samuhell14 10 ай бұрын
Hi there, some European car manufacturer strongly suggest to charge the car via the OBD2 port for such reasons as you might've plugged the charger directly on the negative battery post instead of the chassis ground. What might've happen in that case is that the car sees the low voltage (12v) lithium battery voltage rising without energy going through the battery current sensor so it thinks there's a thermal runaway event or electrical failure and commands the battery management system into protection (disconnect) mode. I've had a similar issue on a customer's brand new BMW last month although the lithium battery is the auxiliary one in that particuliar model so it was not towed in but rather drove in with a concern about the start\stop system no longer working. I highly doubt the lithium battery is dead or damaged yet as they have an internal controller to prevent such result. I feel like the dealer just pulled a quickie on you if it was not warrantied.

Thanks Sam for the explanation which makes sense. Two questions : 1/. Is it best to trickle charge from cigarette lighter ? 2/. My new CTEch is connected on battery terminals and has the battery topped off. No problems ? CTech can reset lithium battery !! NOCO CAN NOT OFFER THIS FUNCTION … why would anyone buy this charger Thanks
@samuhell14
@samuhell14 10 ай бұрын
You're welcome! I'll try to answer your question to the best of my knowledge. First, you can't trickle charge most vehicle through the cigarette lighter anymore as it's usually a circuit that's live with the ignition key\push button in the accessory or On position, kinda defeats the purpose. Older car usually had that circuit powered at all time (direct connection to the battery through a fuse) and it would work For your second question, it's a bit tricky to give a straight answer. You won't cause damage to the lithium battery so to speak but you may get a DTC in the long term, it has to do with the car's battery current sensor not seeing the amount of energy you're putting in the battery with the charger. Car Lithium battery all have an internal module to keep the cells balanced and it's independent from the vehicle, so if that module report a different current state of charge than the car's own computer you might get a diagnosis trouble code in one\few modules, it really depends on the logic implemented by the manufacturer. However, any lithium battery chemistry so far (including your smartphone and EVs) WILL degrade faster if kept at full charge unlike lead acid batteries. It cause cell oxidation and it's irreversible unfortunately. It would be best to let the car manage the lithium battery on it's own And lastly, I don't have an answer why the Ctech will charge your battery unlike the Noco, I'm guessing it's somehow able to wake up the battery control module and charge it. I personally own a newer Gen series (not genius) from Noco and their charging and float algorithm as well as the cell equalization (repair) mode for lead acid battery works really well, it's far from being an useless product. I'm kindda curious to test the lithium charging mode and see what it does with an oscilloscope though.

Again Samuhell I very much appreciate your insights here !! And Time you’ve invested on my thread!! I’m aware of the lithium BMS circuit and its role. So my important take away is to mount the charger quick connector on the positive battery terminal and the negative on chassis Ground to provide the proper current flow path. Is this correct? The quick connect harness provided by the manufacturer tells us to mount it on the battery terminals. But I do understand the current path you are recommending (chassis grd). And I only plug in the battery maintainer when the car is out of service and covered for long periods … this ok? My NOCO must have a failure to cause the battery to discharge and force the BMS to disconnect. Regards Bruno
