Thank you for all your efforts on informing us. You have confirmed my suspicions that rejuvenation of a dead battery is unlikely, however you may just catch it early enough to prolong its life. I am a terrible hoarder and have a bunch of old batteries going back decades. Im going to order an NG5 and see what I can do to kick start any of them back into life. All the best my friend from across the pond UK.

I have sworn to myself Im going to get a booth at a swapmeet here soon and try to thin some of my hoard.

I loved your thoughtful testing procedures and honest conclusions! Great video! Thank you so much. I'm using the Genius 5 for the first time. I want to asses the "repair" function myself on two older batters that I failed to keep properly charged several years, including in harsh and subzero winter temps, "foolish me". When I tested the battery in my car, the meter indicated "completely empty of charge". Since then, it would not completely recharge, but has been been starting my car "so far". We'll see if the Genius 5 can help.

My GENIUS5 is sitting right here beside me charging my SuperStart Premium battery. A parasitic drain has been sucking it dry within an hour of every jump so I'm hoping topping it off will give me some longevity. Just replaced the voltage regulator which brought the battery up from around 13.4v while driving to 13.8v. As for the parasitic drain, I can't even begin to track it down with a dead battery.

Trying to find those drains can be brutal.

Here’s an old trick; If your still having no luck, grab some jumper leads and a good battery, connect the jumper leads + to + & - to - then put the battery charger leads on the dead battery, this will trick any charger to believe it’s above 10v and will start charging…✌️

I don’t know if that will work with a lot of the new chargers. A lot of them have built in protections and will turn off when they are connected backwards.

I have done that + to +and - to - trick (without a charger connected) with many 18650 batteries that had to low voltage to charge. It just takes a couple of seconds or so to make it ready for the charger/tester (liitokala charger)

Lol thank you. I think it’s badger in that one. He def pops up more. We had just lot Catfish in April, so Badger was brand new then but now he’s in the garage all the time. If you look at the last video about fan clutches he pops up and he has an Easter egg at the end after the credits.

Good video, thanks for the information. A question, what happens if I charge a 200ah battery with the Noco 5 (battery capacity 120ah)? Does it just take longer to load? or does it not charge completely? Thanks
@CatfishMotorsports4 ай бұрын
I think it would just take longer. In theory a 20 amp charger would charge 200 AH battery in 10 hours. I don’t see why it wouldn’t still charge it, it’s just going to take 4 times as long.

Did you top off the water in each cell? I have fixed batteries that lost fluid through evaporation.
@CatfishMotorsportsАй бұрын
I did that to one of them a while back with no success. I don’t remember which one.

Why the manual says don't leave the noco 5 charger while charging a battery? Exploding ?
@CatfishMotorsports5 ай бұрын
Probably just liability boilerplate. It’s meant to switch to a maintenance mode after it’s done charging which is meant to be connected long term

@@CatfishMotorsports why noco 5 doesn't have float charge ? Weird

Did you check if the batteries had plenty of distilled water? Even maintenance-free batteries need water to charge.
@CatfishMotorsports4 ай бұрын
One of them. I don’t remember which. Actually resulted in one of the worst scares I’ve had working on car stuff. I tried to do a battery revival with extra distilled water like a year ago. When I put the cap back on, it popped and splashed some battery acid directly into my eye. (Wear safety glasses kids). And then it didn’t actually help. Sorta soured me on the whole process lol.

The fumes give me special powers…… The light behind from the open doors in bright daylight messes with the camera. I opened the door when I let it run for a while off camera. I also may have had one of the out of shot doors open even when it was only running for 20-30 seconds.
