Historically, tha vast majority of monarchs around the world are/ good and caring people working harder for the good of the country. Hans-Adam II, Pedro I of Brazil, Pedro II de Brasil, Carlomagno, Marcus Aurelius, Carlos III are good examples.

The Emperor's consideration is to listen to the victims' stories from their perspective and offer encouragement, so he kneels down and sits at eye level with them. This is a great honor for the people, and I don't think this would happen in other countries. The victims have been encouraged by hearing the Emperor's words, and have made efforts to rebuild. Empress Michiko's gentle gaze is also reassuring, as she is like a mother to the entire nation. She always puts the people first, above herself.

A few western royals are worthy of respect, some for being a symbol of culture, and a few for work under dark circumstances. One of the greatest influences on my stance toward monarchy would be Emperor Franz Joesph of Austria-Hungary, a very complicated yet dedicated, and caring individual toward his subjects. Especially during World War One, he was the only person who basically kept the country unified until his death. I would recommend looking into him, his story is tragic yet very admirable.

Japanese emperor is unique in that only those who are destined for it (descendent) can become a Japanese emperor and will be the emperor until death", and it is the Japanese tradition that has lasted over 2600 years. It's completely different from presidents or prime ministers who can be anyone in principle. It is an amazing system that if you trace back fathers from any emperor in the past, you'll get to the first emperor, and the system has been maintained over 2600 years. It's just amazing.

I love how they kneel down to their subject's level. Never needing to raise voices and actually speak in hushed tones, its very intimate. Also, the scribes following the Emperor AND Empress as they do their best to take notes of what possibly are the people's request DIRECTLY to their Emperor. Its all so intimate, no wonder Japan is willing to follow their leader. Unlike some politicians we have in our own country, its all about how many microphones and close-up camera shots they can do when doing similar activity.

I am from the United Kingdom and Japan did invade British territories (Burma, Hong Kong e.t.c.) but I firmly believe that the Imperial Japanese Family is one of the best monarchies out there - after the British one of course! Akihito is a role model for any Monarch or President or Prime Minister as he shows a very uncommon ability to go down to any level and act like a normal, and I say this in the best possible way, old age pensioner.
