One of my favourite themes because it is basically the same melodies in opening and closing themes. But the different arrangements and tempo change create two completely different musical atmospheres. Love the blasting trumpets at 00:22 compared muted at 00:59.

Euston Films produced some great drama series for ITV in the 70s and 80s The iconic The Sweeney and also Minder, Van der Valk and Capital City. All fantastically entertaining and, in most cases, great commercial successes.

Loved the Sweeney but the last series went a bit off and had a more comedic tone to it with Morecambe and Wise guest staring etc.Also what are they looking up at getting out of the squad car? The bit with Haskins struggling out was cut later on as was the crim running in platform shoes who stops and looks how far the cozzers are behind him and then carries on running!......comedy gold!!

The writers seemed to run out of steam in the later series and Euston Films just had to introduce the likes of Morecambe and Wise....Even the image-changes in the credits were somehow 'off-key' but, then, it was their series to play around with.

rolf bay John Thaw was a CBE ( Commander of the Order of the British Empire) and was very much proud to be so by all accounts, his widow, Sheila Hancock is an OBE. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that, despite Thaw being a Labour voter he wasn’t anti- establishment. He was from the tough streets of Burnley in Manchester and ended up living in beautiful house in Cirencester with a walled garden a world away from his humble and very poor beginnings, I am not surprised that he was proud of receiving it.

Stop please ... Rest in peace John!!!
@jane19756 жыл бұрын
Mario Milano Yes, it’s sad that he is no longer with us ( he gave up the booze but couldn’t give up the cigs unfortunately, and sadly it killed him), He was a great thespian and he made this role and that of Morse his own ( and a lesser extent, Kavanagh QC ). I am sure that he would be proud that people still enjoy his work posthumously. Apparently Regan was originally from Manchester like Thaw was ( sometimes Thaw did have difficulty keeping his accent down as Morse), Regan was only divorced 1 time ( and it’s obvious that Regan still cares about his ex, Kate and loves his daughter). Thaw was only divorced 1 time too, Sally Alexander and him divorced ( both claiming that they were too young to settle down) and their daughter ( whom stars in Endeavour), Abigail is an actress. Thaw married actress Sheila Hancock on Christmas Eve 1973 and he adopted her daughter, Melanie ( also an actress) and Sheila gave birth to their daughter, Joanna in 1975. They remained married until his death ( separated briefly in 1988 ). Although coming from a gritty background, like Regan, Thaw’s personal life was a lot happier. I agree with RIP though. .

@@jane1975 Thaw first lived in a terraced house on a small one way street in the Manchester suburb of West Gorton, almost all of which has been erased from the map by systematic clearance and redevelopment that took place between the 1950s and 1980s. His home was situated a few hundred yards from where I lived for ten years from the late '40s to the late '50s (1957).
