so the switch should only stay in the newly chosen state if the feedback was positive, not so sure about the retries, why would it fail initially, comms error ? and how would we know when the error occured, physical switch could be ok (got the message) but the reply failed / replies fail, then what ?

It could fail in either direction but it doesn't matter as after x retries then you need some form of notification. With a physical switch using feedback you have that automatically as you turn it on it should stay on etc. does that make sense? rgds Steve
