For 25 years he was the stadium rock band guitarist and much as I love him in oasis.....I think I actually prefer him solo. Who built the moon takes a couple of listens to wrap your ears round but it is awesome. I’m looking forward to the E.Ps and his direction. He is undoubtedly the Chief

Glad he's changed direction and seen the light. Nothing wrong with it. Glad he isn't just a touring nostalgia act anymore. I also like Liam's album which is typical rock n roll but sounding more modern. They are both making fresh sounds again.

noel wrote all of them and it was a new chapter for him, so why he's talking about the songs so long. and he likes to tell stories. liam is not good with words and he doesn't like tio talk much *he's all about action) and a couple of tunes were written for him so... it's not that strange.

He's just so open minded when it comes to music, when you've been doing the same thing for 20 years it must feel great to have someone to push you to do something different. People still seem to think he's the same person he was when he was in Oasis, people mature and change and for me Noel is a much much better person now making much better music than he ever did in the last 10 years of Oasis.

@@Super123ps but still it's surprisingly good too, when you think it's just an experimental album.. there's a lot of positive vibe on this album actually, cosmic rock and synthesizer feels strange at first but when you listen to the whole album. that's it, say no more. and talk about liam, after you listen to 2 of Beady Eye's album, "as you were" indeed a better than those two.. he still got it.

I've got to admit I'm in my 30s now...outgrew oasis several years ago..although have a lot of nostalgia with them. Even back in the day I saw their faults but also knew noel had the potential for great things if only they went off piest a bit and experimented..went out his comfort zone and stopped lifting off others in an obvious and cheesy way. I'm glad to see he's began the journey down that road. A decent start and hopefully he builds on this and he creates a truly great album in this vein in the future. Keep up the good work.

In terms of individual tracts, It's a Beautiful World ranks as one of the best songs he's ever written. If there are complaints about some songs, because his first two solo albums had some really good tracks I get it. But this album is the first complete album , almost a concept album. You need to listen to the whole product, over and over and it remains in your head. Wonderful feel!

I love the new album and I've been a die-hard Oasis fan since 1994. The songs are great, the unorthodox arrangements and the album's overall production are amazing. It's crazy, people who claim they love John Lennon, blame Noel for making a trippy psychedelic record like "Who Built The Moon?".

Growing up in Mendips, Lennon himself was not working class at all and Noel said "mundane" with a suggestion of irony or sarcasm in his voice.
@whitedevil4122
@whitedevil4122 7 жыл бұрын
Spot on, soulagent. I had a similar thought. It was reminding me of when Paul Weller left the Jam and started the style council. All the Jam fans were pissed because Weller was making gay music and wearing fruity cardigans. The simple fact is he had done all he could with the Jam. Leaving helped him grow as a musician and he is better for it. Some of these Oasis fans would like to see a bald Liam and Noel out on stage when they're 60 playing the same old songs....just like Status Quo, or something.
@whitedevil4122
@whitedevil4122 7 жыл бұрын
+Beatle Stories - Does he really need to explain his comment? It's not that hard to grasp, tbh. His comment is not about their views on the working class. He is comparing their musical progression and the reaction of the fans to it. A lot of Beatles fans were pissed off when they moved away from the tried and tested into 'weird' music....which proved, in the end, to be their best work. This happened with the Beach Boys with their shift to 'Pet Sounds' and Paul Weller when he left the Jam. The irony, as I suspect soulagent is also pointing out, is that a lot of these fans criticising Noels change, probably sit around banging on about how great Sgt Pepper is and would rank it way above a hard days night and would laugh at the people who moaned at the time about the change. These Oasis fans want Noel to carry on making a hard days night.

In feel bad for Noel he received (still do) load of shit last year, the poor guy can't seem to breath anymore without getting attacked for every fuck think he does nowadays, even though I love Liam I feel in a way he has instigated his fans to hate Noel and his music. If it was released by oasis, people would've loved it, how is it any any different to their first psychedelic experimental album Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants and also Dig Out Your Soul. I for one am glad he went in a different direction, I've totally grown to love the album, he's an unbelievably talented gifted artist he still got it in him to make great stuff we as oasis fan should support and encourage him, if he's not going to do it now then when? This maybe boring to some but you gotta admire his passion and enthusiasm when he talks about his music, he's one of the hard working musician I know who loves and puts alot of energy in his work and I respect him hugely for that.

Camille Durkheim well... "it's just bad" when you put it like that how can we possibly argue against such an insightful comment. FFS.. you and the rest of the Wonderwall lovers, need to face up to the fact that you just don't get, it because it goes over your myopic brain. Who Built the Moon, is a fucking Masterpiece and an absolute joy to listen to; a melting pot of musical styles and references, some obscure, some not so, all glued together by Noels pop sensibilities. Really, it's your loss if you fail to recognise the genius in this record. My advice, broaden your musical horizons and stop listening to Adele and WTSMG.

clearly Noel is one thousand percent satisfied with this record, despite not having any real pre conceived idea of what the album would sound like.. he just tapped into his musical psyche, let loose and went with it. There's dozens of other obscure references on there, besides psychedelia, Roxy Music, krautrock, Bowie (low period) Acid House, The Prodigy, New Order, The Chemical Brothers, Cabarete Voltaire.. and so on.. The album is constructed form the Beck School of songwriting; a bit like Picasso, steal bits and pieces from everywhere and throw them all in to the mix and see what happens. Having said that, at the very core of the songs, are Noels signature great melodies, gluing it all together... strip it all back from the sonic paraphernalia and the (what the fuck is this shit brigade) would be surprisingly satisfied. However, sadly for those unable to rise to the musical challenge set by Noel, they are left feeling betrayed and somehow let down. Well that's just tough shit I'm afraid, as Noel's a long way past giving two fucks what his fans think, and I for one say good luck to the guy, he's earned it!

I have a weird relationship with this album. Because it's all I want to listen to, so I'm trying hard not to over play and kill it. And when I'm not listening to it I'm like "It's not as good as I remember it", and then I put it on and I'm like "It is just that damn good!" This album comes out of left field. I dig it, a lot. So I love having this interview to hear all about it.

Sometime back I had a theory that *Daft Punk* had developed some amazing algorithm that analyse the greatest music from the last 40 odd years & managed to distil that into the essence of some very good & catchy tunes. I don't know if Noel hasn't done the same here? I get a bit of *The Beatles & Stones,* some early French pop music, some *Prodigy.....* It's a good album with some great tracks though!

I pray for an album of 10 songs like Dead In The Water. Just an acoustic guitar, piano and some backing vocals, recorded live in the studio, then performed live like those intimate Oasis gigs he did with Gem & Chris.

What do people expect him to do, keep making stuff that sounds like Oasis? Everyone had a go at Paul Weller when he left the Jam. The Style council wasn't his finest hour but we never would have had "Stanley Road" or "Wild Wood" if Weller had just tried to please the Jam fans. "Who Built the Moon" is nothing like Oasis but that doesn't mean it isn't brilliant in it's own right. The best album HFB have done.

Harvey Smith you my friend have hit the nail on the head.... Musicians and artists need to evolve.... Noel isn't the first to do it and he certainly won't be the last

Harvey Smith I really like the album I find it comforting that Noel has changed and matured alongside me as it isn't 1995 anymore and change is good I think

For fucks sake. This argument again? His last two albums sounded nothing like Oasis and they were exceptionally brilliant. This also sounds nothing like oasis and its fucking self indulgent and a pathetic attempt to appear "alternative". What point are you trying to make?

I think after the body of work Noel has created he has earned the right to be self indulgent.

I’ve listened to the album a couple of times today. Firstly, I like the fact he has done something a little different. My fave songs on the album, She Taught Me How To Fly, Love Is The Law, Dead In The Water. What I don’t like, is it doesn’t feel too much like an album. Like there is a style to it, but this Who Built The Moon has nothing to do with tracks on the album in my opinion. Was hoping there would be more of a thread through the whole thing but, it’s better than most music out now

REM is from Athens Georgia, about as far away from LA as you can get. But otherwise I can't wait till hear the record. Still wish he and Liam would make up, for family purposes and one more record/tour.

Love the album, one thing I realized is that The man who built the moon has the same strings as the violin in « le chat du café des artistes » by Jean-Pierre Ferland. Have a listen and tell me what you think 😉

Despite what Noel has said about them, I kinda expected Noel to mention Radiohead when talking about “Its a Beautiful World”. That drumloop, bass, and guitar throughout the tune could easily be on a Radiohead album.
