@@NoelleGallagher I say this is one to recommend if you are just looking for the atmosphere of the adventure itself, not a destination, which is why a lot of ppl were disappointed by this one. If you like the meandering side quests without there being much point in them, then go for it. This one was just straight vibes but I needed more out of it myself.

Yes, came to the comments to mention this and that it's not necessarily romance like you'd think of it and the prose makes it take longer to read, or maybe that was just my experience of it. So it took me the same amount of time to read as a book twice as long. I did not regret this time though as it was one of my favorites of 2022.

Agreed! After reading this, it became one of my favorite books of all time. Some get confused in the beginning, but it unravels itself page by page. The prose is beautiful and is 110% worth the payoff. So much uncovered in a short book, and also made me uncontrollably ugly cry.

Having a truly bummer morning (state of the US + sick family) and seeing you had a new video really brightened my day! Thanks a million! Maybe not the greatest adventure recommendation because I wouldn't exactly call it a page turner but you might try Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami. I don't know if I've seen you read much Murakami and this one is my favorite. My other recommendations would be to try out mysteries. I really enjoy all of Anthony Horowitz's books and they are all pretty light. I like the Magpie Murders the best. For more psychological mystery, In the Woods by Tana French is gripping and haunting, as is almost all of her Dublin detectives series. The Likeness and Broken Harbor were also very haunting. I also just finished Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, which was very gripping but I will admit that I hated it due to a plot twist that happens 3/4s in but hey it was very readable and fast, even for a slow reader like me. Thanks again for being a bright spot in my crummy day!

As you said any genre, I hope you won't mind me suggesting some Middle Grade, it's always helped me out of slumps as they are quick, fun and adventurous reads! The Train to Impossible Places by P.G. Bell is super cute, about a girl named Suzy who is very smart, but her logical brain can't seem to figure out how a set of train tracks appeared in her front room, she jumps onto the train to find out and that starts off a whole adventure! Also, Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, about Morrigan who thinks she's horribly unlucky until a man named Jupiter North shows up on her eleventh birthday and saves her life by taking her to a completely different world called Nevermoor! I really enjoyed both of these books and I hope they help! :)

I definitely suggest The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin! I was absolutely enthralled by the series, not to mention her writing is great and for a fantasy series it’s also great for “literature people” because there’s a ton to unpack and great themes. But you can also just get lost in the world and enjoy the books at the same time. She also won the Hugo Award for each of the three books in the trilogy (which I believe has never been done before).

My favorite mystery series is the Amelia Peabody Mysteries. It has rich family dynamics, the historical context and egyptological references are very approachable, so you don’t need to have any prior knowledge to enjoy it. The first book is called “Crocodile on the Sandbank” and it’s a delight. I listen to the whole series through at least once a year, but make sure if you get the audiobook that it’s the versions narrated by Barbara Rosenblat, her voice makes the story live for me.

love the spring vid! im def putting "nightcrawling" on my tbr! for recs, a fun adventurous thriller is "perfume: the story of a murderer" by patrick suskind. its about a budding perfumer with an amazing sense of smell, and his desire to create the Best Perfume Ever takes him all over France, from paris to the countryside. There is a lot of amazing scent imagery, which I don't feel like we get a lot of, generally. Theres pleasant smell descriptions and not-so-pleasant, but quite vivid either way. also kinda dark/funny.

Something Wilder - my favorite Christina Lauren book! It’s full of adventure and romance. Treasure hunting, maps, challenges, a little mystery, and it’s a page turner! 💕 The Serpent & The Wings of Night - Hunger Games style challenges with Vampires! 🔥

I always start a fantasy series when in a reading slump. I would recommend crescent city! It’s funny, based in a modern/urban setting.

Noelle, if you like reading about family/sibling dynamics and also about swimming, you have to read Black Cake. One of my faves from 2022!

I can't wait for you to read This is How you Lose the Time War! It's one of my favorite books I've ever read. It's short, but packs a punch. I read it and was shook. Some say the beginning is confusing, but I didn't mind it and the pay off is worth it. It's a beautiful but intricate romance in a sci-fi world.

Paused the video right in the beginning because I NEED to recommend An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green. I don't know if you read it already, but I finished reading today and sounds like the thing you're looking for. So so good!!!!! Also, so happy everytime there's a new video from you :)

I have been needing an all-encompassing (encapsulating?) read lately too. I read Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy last year and could not put it down. It's also fairly short, which can be nice. Eager to read what everyone else recommends as well
