Very heartbreaking to know Hank will never be the same man he once was. I didn’t want to believe that it was gonna end up the same way as Barry and Sally’s progressively-toxic relationship if it lasted any longer, and when Cristobal was about to die, Hank instantly swallowed his emotions.

The thing is Hank was already a murderer and a criminal when he was first introduced. He was just goofy and incompetent so he presented as a cheerful, good-hearted guy. But realistically he’s in the same boat as Barry, just less self-aware (which is nuts since Barry spends half his time in ocean-deep denial and the other half in mental breakdowns)

Man.. its sad.. Because Hank didnt know what to do.. so he had to Betray the trust of Cristobal to get the elders off of him... plus now they are protected . But Cristobal understandably felt betrayed... Hank was begging for him to stay. That was sad. But Hank brought it on himself at the end of the day. No more 50/50 with Cristobal.. and no more Barry training him an army.... :( Sad to see this all ending.

Hank wasn't cool with being the plucky comic relief butt of the jokes type of guy, so despite the traumas he'd been through and the ones he inflicted on others, it was pretty rich that he thought he deserved respect from everyone because he saw himself as a super relax guy. But here's the truth, Hank is extremely likeable, and while he's capable of good acts and has a somewhat caring quality, he ultimately can't accept what he's done. He acts like a victim, but him, Barry, Fuches, Sally, and Gene are all the same person. People who lie, and believe that they are the heroes of their stories. Sally took Fuches' story to heart, and got out just in time. Hank couldn't make it in time because he'd bottled it up for so long. Barry already knew he was irredeemable, so he forced his misguided attempts at good onto John. And when Barry died, he realized there would be no punishment, no redemption for him, and zero fanfare from his perspective. He was just gone. There was no confirmation, his last words were merely ones of surprise. Words don't do anything. For a guy like him, it's permanently night. Barry was never a deep thinker. Gene got off on sleaze, and was vainglorious, so instead of clearing his name and winning the good graces of the people, he tried to put himself in the most socially and financially suitable position. He became conceited, insecure, and isolated. Lost his sense of self, came back eight years later, and went right back into his dark side. Then he realized he hated it, and killed Barry. An extreme act of pettiness where Gene tried to control the narrative and inevitably framed himself as a cowardly, psychopathic, murderous, manipulative puppet-master, constantly trapped by the fact that he truly did care for Barry, but could never forgive him for the murder of Janice, a person whom he had an outwardly shallow relationship with but one that was mostly sincere. Janice appreciated Gene's foolishness, and Jim hated everything about Gene and simply wanted a reason to connect him to Barry. Jim might have been a resourceful man, but he was too trusting of any information that immediately connected with his cognitive bias. Jim was a genius, but ultimately like Barry, had a lack of forethought beyond his own ideals and priorities. Ironically, the only character who wanted to clean up his act was Cristobal, and he only ended up getting the brunt of their toxic behaviour. He was professional, rational, caring, and considerate of his buddies. After leaving his wife and going through the trauma of the electro-shock treatment, he didn't return to his ways of relentless murdering and ruthless scheming, it was a wakeup call for him. But this isn't a story about bad people changing their ways, or becoming good. This is the story of relatable and likeable characters remarkably failing in every aspect of their lives until the people around them suffer as they become a version of themselves they can't recognize anymore. Fuches was the most aware, and unlike the rest of the cast, he only became aware, because he was the genesis of all their problems, relatively speaking. They would have messed up on their own, but he was the original catalyst. Fuches is unforgivable, but I was deeply affected by his final talk with Hank. A man with no heart, even though he adopted the Raven persona as an escape from himself, it made him seem more enlightened. But the truth is he chose to forgo his humanity, and admitted that he wasn't even powerful, he was just a self-concerned monster, too absorbed in himself, too weak, too stupid, too cowardly. And that's where he redeemed himself in my opinion, he doesn't want forgiveness, he just wants to see it admitted, announced. He discovered the truth behind all of their problems. Accepting responsibility. Admitting they fucked up. That they were scared, and the only way they could make themselves forget, was to become someone else.

1:43 this line is what I always look forward to when I watch this scene because it really shows how much he’s changed throughout his criminal activities. It really solidifies the reality and weight on the trust factor between his associates because as far as their partners know they were participating in legitimate business but considering the baggage that Hank and Cristobal left, the feds, weren’t going to let that go so yes Hank was right. If it wasn’t going to be the elders, it was going to be the feds.

NOW we are crime lords." and "when you say that word, you sound naive" are such good lines. i love scenes where hank demonstrates how much more intelligent and aware he is than he typically lets on. i feel like his preference is really to not have to be so direct and serious, but he always knows when he has to be. it also seems like he gets pissed being referred to as "psychopath" which i get, hank isn't a psychopath-he's a ruthless businessman, but he has an incredible amount of empathy and caring

Story wise, doesnt make sense. He knew the risks and didnt bother to involve Cristobal in the decisions that got to that point, cause he was ultimately looking out for himself, not 50/50.. Hank did make a statement that they'll always be coming for them and was giving the same speech from Godfather, "This is the life, we've chosen!" Death for freedom, or be a prisoner. That seems to be the theme here this season.. No one is getting out of this without massive collateral damage.

The direction of this show is starting to become nonsensical….Cristobal is a drug lord. Hank is a drug lord. They had probably killed dozens if not hundreds of people through hits before the events of the show even started. And now we’re supposed to believe that Hank is somehow worse than he was before and that Cristobal’s judging him for it? The show was more interesting when it had nuance, now the message just seems to be “killing is bad and makes you bad” which is less interesting. It used to have something to say about war and coercion and morality and the grey areas of it and now it’s just…these guys killed too much and now they’re bad.

Cristobal says it himself that he wanted to go more legit. And this wasn’t just killing random guys, Hank murdered their own partners and loyal men while almost killing cristobal too. He betrayed cristobals trust, that’s what he’s most upset about, Hank murdering like 10 of their partners was just the cherry on top lmao. Plus this show has always carried a goofy air around its criminal personalities so when they actually do evil stuff like this it stands out, (take Barry killing everyone in the monastery, he has already killed dozens of people up to that point, everyone in there is a criminal, but since Barry and the gangs are portrayed as pretty goofy most of the time that moment sticks out as especially evil for him.) For a guy like hank who has essentially been the comedic relief for 3 seasons to pull a move like this is definitely a major shift for his character

The disgust of having his trust betrayed I can understand, but Cristobal called him a psychopath. Are we really supposed to believe that Cristobal became a crime boss without having already killed many innocent people? Like wasn’t their business selling heroine? I just don’t understand why the writers are trying to put Hank and Cristobal into these separate boxes of morality. They were comic relief characters but the idea was that they were supposed to always have been brutal, that was the joke. They were “nice guys” but they still killed and ordered deaths. I also don’t understand the direction of Barry’s character either? Barry always killed because he was either coerced or for self preservation or due to rage because someone he loved was threatened, but now he just wants to kill kousenua out of spite? Where’s the nuance? It’s doing the same thing game of thrones did. Dumbing down characters into good guys and bad guys to make a final distinction on morality and it’s boring.

Yeah the writing has slipped over season 3 and now 4. It's as if the writers think the audience is too stupid to form their own opinions and won't realize the murderous criminals are bad people unless they are bashed over the head with it in the most blunt manner possible. Same went for the Sally teaching scene. They rehashed the same thing Cousineau did in ep1, but this time instead of having the joke be that it's obviously cruel and unnecessary while everyone thinks it is fine we are forced to sit through the characters explaining that it's bad to berate someone until they break down in the name of acting. As if the viewers are such halfwits that it needs to be explicitly stated. Thanks Hollywood writers, I really appreciate the ham-fisted morality lesson in a show about hitmen and drug lords
