Extraordinarily helpful tutorial! Instead of just whizzing through with a set of magic parameter values this tutorial vividly demonstrates the SYMPTOMS of poor choices of values ("ant farms", "tetris blocks" etc.) and shows HOW TO FIGURE OUT a good choice of parameter values to suit your own image. Bravo!

Dave, best NR tutorial I’ve seen on MLT. You made one mistake I constantly do with MLT. You left the algorithm on Starlet Transform instead of Multiscale Linear Transform. This basically is the same as Atrous. I think the tutorial is still valid, the results might just be a little different.

How did you get this nice black background at the finished result? I try to process the Orion nebula but I have a lot of noise in it and the background looks very grayscale.

use histogram transformation to remove background gray tint.
