I remember hearing this for the 1st time in 1997 at a CD store....this lady used to buy n sell used/new music and she was big on importing music from overseas......she was playin this in the store and i asked her who it was...they have a great sound

Best intro ever! And those guitars! So epic! That metal masterpiece should have been a soundtrack for Black Sails series! Running Wild the only and true metal pirates!

I feel like although Running Wild created the gimmick they were slightly less gimmicky than bands that came after them. I also suspect the pirate thing is just a more socially acceptable stand in for Anarchist Ideas (The Pirate Party and whatnot) in this case but they do take the historical themes fairly serious. Obviously a pretty influential band and few live up to the lyrical brilliance that Rolf had. Up there with Dax Riggs in terms of lyricists for the genre.
