Great breakdown the dancing is due to phasing and phase cancellation causing oscillations. This is the core of dubstep wobble biggest difference here is this is one sine split instead of 2 offset fine tuned sines.

I tried fucking around with this technique, my only question is: how do you keep the pitch under control? Cause the results are very interesting and usable, but automating the shift fucks up the pitch in a way that's really hard to control, so do you have a way to know/control precisely what's happening to the pitch of the bass?

i dont understand does the frequency shifter create more peaks? ;)
@robertsyrett1992
@robertsyrett1992 5 жыл бұрын
The basis for frequency shifting starts a sinusoid. sin(f1 + f2) = sin(f1) * cos(f2) + sin(f1) * cos(f2) This creates a side band frequency, which is the second peak. The saturator is actually adding most of the additional harmonics.

Wouldn't you want to turn the phase all the way down... Especially if you are trying to use this as like a filler bass/Sub sound? Subs are mono and having the phase on makes it not mono?
@Erliortmejurur
@Erliortmejurur 3 жыл бұрын
The phase knob doesnt do anything, the lfo amount is off. Also believe that the phase just shifts the phase of the lfo and doesnt change stereo information- phase is just how many degrees off of 0 you are oscillating at, not necessarily a difference in the left and right channels.

55 Hz is A1 according to Scientific Pitch Notation, with concert A (A4 or A440) being 440 Hz. Most systems of pitch operate this way. Middle C on the piano, the C right below A440, is commonly known as C4, cycling at 262 Hz. Why in the hell is Ableton still one octave lower? It creates so much confusion...

Doesn't that make the sound out of tune . (frequency shifting)
@matthewsmith2298
@matthewsmith2298 5 жыл бұрын
It can do, but mainly it will sound just inharmonic if the fundamental is still in tune. But you can also frequency split and only frequency shift part of the sound, essentially making a new waveform out the combination of harmonics, that will cause phase cancellation giving it a sort reesey/phaser effect. But tbh its a long and rarely fruitful process. And any sound made this way will be hard to mix and can easily run into phase and other issues. Plus with serum and harmour being a thing, you can get the same effect alot easier and get a useable sound much quicker. but its still fun to experiment.
@Amsoily
@Amsoily 5 жыл бұрын
Often times, the sound will only sound good or best on one note on your controller. You may need to splice the clip to take the best part. Render a clip from that note then put it in a sampler. Now you have a tuned instrument. Now do more processing 《'filters multiple bp*'》 and render another clip, chop it up, load into a sampler and have fun.
@matthewsmith2298
@matthewsmith2298 5 жыл бұрын
@@Amsoily Or you can assign some sort of key tracking to the frequency shift cutoff/parameter so that the shifted pitch stays relative to the note played. It wont be 100% accurate but might give you more usable notes, before needing to re sample. Not even sure if iv'e tryed this out before, so its just a guess really. But re sampling is a good option.
@Amsoily
@Amsoily 5 жыл бұрын
Often times in sound design I may not be creating sound in temp or sync or key to a song. I'm just making sounds, either with an idea, or a refrence or freestyling it. Once I have cool sound if pitched, then I will tune. Then my sampler can be played with the song. Or my rendered audio clips* may be placed. Now my syncd modulation and filters are working on a file thats imbeded with modulation and filters from other values. Then I can render that so my proccesing is stable. A midi file rarley is reliable to maintain a consistent dependible pitch any way. Render it. Sorry if you know this. Just trying to answer pretty completely.
