Ever since I listened to Kanye back when Yeezus first came out, I felt that I needed to listen to his older music because Yeezus sounded garbage to me (I love the album nowadays after being in the Yeezus era from the interviews be to the tour). I started with Graduation thinking it was Ye's best and instantly wondered "Why TF doesn't he make music like this anymore? Wtf happened?" Then I bumped to Dark Fantasy and it struck me & stood out to me on being one of the most artistic albums I've ever heard from production, concepts, the instrumentations on songs, features, it was an experience listening to it the first time. This was a paradigm Shift of an album for Ye. People doubted him after 808s (Though I loved it), hated him after the debacle with Swift but the fact he was able to basically hit the reset button and explode once again. I wish Kanye could re-release those Good Friday songs to streaming services. I downloaded the tracks as they dropped on Kanye's website each Friday in 2010 but the computer I used in 2010 was given away in 2012 so I lost the tracks. I know I can download the songs again on random websites but those aren't the original source files from Kanye's website. If Kanye releases the Good Friday tracks officially then we'll be able to stream them in high resolution on Tidal & Qobuz and have the high quality album artwork for each one of those tracks.

Kanye is everything Hip hop goes against. On one spectrum we have artists who believe soley that art should be created one artists without the contribution of others (lyrics to be more specific) then we got Kanye who decided that there was so many places he could go with his art and decided to ask for contribution to create the masterpiece that is MBDTF. I feel like he’s an example alot of artists should follow.

I think you’re confusing “Hip-Hop Culture” with “MC’ing” and “Commercialized Rap.” All 3 a very distinct and have their own origins and purpose. “Hip-Hop” is a culture with 4 fundamental pillars that include DJing, MCing, B-Boying (Breakdance), & Writing (Graffiti). This culture originated form the expression of impoverished inner city teenagers and was heavily built on a mixture of individual expression and collaborative efforts. “MC’ing” is one of the pillars of Hip-Hop and while collaboration between and MC and DJ or fellow MC for the purpose of making music is welcomed, there’s a level of integrity behind MC’ing that essentially comes down to writing your own bars. This is a coveted lane where the rap elites like Ramin, Big L, KRS-1, Ice Cube, Jay-Z, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, and Rapsody exist. Now “Commercialized Hip-Hop” is essentially the distilled version of Hip-Hop that is formed for mass marketing to push products and reach cultures outside of “Hip-Hop.” That’s when the lines get blurred because while tenants of Hip-Hop culture are crucial to the genre, the ultimate focus is lost because the goal is mass appeal not artistic integrity. This where Eazy-E, Lil Wayne, Kanye, and Drake exist. Kanye certainly pushes the boundaries of art in the genre but Hip-Hop has ALWAYS welcomed collaboration and was literally rooted in welcoming unorthodox artistic expression.

This album is very personal and emotional. One significant purpose of art, expression of self. It’s much more sincere and experimental than most of albums in the hiphop industry these days. You listen to this album, you’re actually listening to Kanye telling you his struggles and his side. That’s why this album is great. It speaks, talks, tells, as Kanye West.

I will always believe MBDTF to be very possibly the greatest hip hop album ever made. It has had an emotional connection with me for years. Every track is almost perfect. Anyone who criticizes Kanye I know deep down has never lied down, put in some headphones, and put on this masterpiece. A true 21st century American artwork that will live forever.

​@@gloryayara7914 look, even if a critic lacks creativity, that doesn't meant they can't take from a record what themes it's trying to convey, and evaluate how well they were expressed and the technical integrity of the album the skills required to make music and to critique it are quite different, and require very different investments of time and effort to study the profession i do agree it's kind of a shame the album got a 6/10, but i can at least see why. like he said, the album has some incredible strong points (a lot of the instrumentals on the bigger tracks like POWER and Runaway, plus the incredible bars throughout the first few tracks of the album) and and glaring weak points (some standout bad lyrics, overblown and messy parts such as All Of The Lights as well as some questionable decisions such as Minaj's Barbie voice on Monster), so it makes sense that since the mainstream would notice the strong points first, they'd be likely to form a more positive opinion of it i love MBDTF, but denying its flaws would alter my image of kanye in an unfair way, so for the sake of that, i can't turn a blind eye to its faults

I now understand why my father worshipped and tried to mirror this man. He made me wear polos everywhere, played all of Kanye’s samples from every track… never let me on a mixing deck but always pushed new music into my circuit. I grew up hating rap and hip hop… I loved listening to John Legend and Alecia Keys, it became my sense of freedom, once I turned twelve my mom got me a cheap MP3 player with all kinds of music I had never heard yet! Over 400 tracks on there. From Tribe Called Quest, to Sade, to Biggie, Bach, to Jimmy Hendricks, and much much more. Now as an adult if only I could have that cheap mp3 back. I didn’t know it at the time but my parents were creating a critical analyzer. For everyone that couldn’t see Kanye’s vision, or forgot about his authenticity or disregarded his passion: shame and the joke on you.
