@ViolentMLG4 жыл бұрын
Great lyrical? That was WAYYYY before Waka. I mean you could credit Eazy-E in the 90's, or Lil jon in the 2000's. There are allot of artist who never focused on lyrical capabilities throughout their careers, however, I do give Waka props for pushing forward the gangster rap/drill movement. He was doing big things in 2010, brick squad was huge. He definitely brought a fresh vibe and take on it. Chief keef and others most def were inspired by him IMO.

TLDR: Detoxing in the hospital after fighting cops and being held against your will sucks but this podcast gave me hope about a better future for myself and I'm glad to hear this conversation. Big ups to the legend Waka and I hope to see that Poker game with you all. PS: Gonna delete this comment but wanted to post it up for a minute. The long version about listening to this and my scattered thoughts on addiction and mental illness after losing a fight with cops and detoxing in an ER for several days in Florida during COVID: I was in the hospital ER for almost a week after another near fatal overdose and downloaded this before my battery on my phone died when I came to. Flocka's thoughts about business and overall philosophy on life and business gave me something to reflect about while on a Marchment act after I blacked out and apparently decided to fight (and get my ass handed to me) by some cops. If it wasn't for the person who saw me passed out in a parking lot calling an ambulance and the police I'd probably be dead and this is far from the first time I've come close to death over my addictions. I don't want to die at all, but addictions are hell. If it wasn't for that stranger in the parking lot who saw me I most likely be probably. It's just sad waking up with tubes and needles coming out of you from everywhere not knowing how you got there and then suddenly it happens again. It's really a serious hell I don't wish on anyone and I pray God give's me the connections and the strength to live a better life free from addictions I've battled for nearly 2 decades. I barely slept at all because I in the ER where they are constantly bringing people in and out on stretchers screaming in pain or fighting for their lives. It was scary especially while going through some major withdrawals from alcohol and A LOT of other stuff at the same time. Listening to this episode gave me some hope about being a better person and how to move forward smarter in life during this state where I was being held and no visitors were allowed due to COVID and my folks had flown to Illinois for a week. My one responsibility was to watch my parents little dog and I couldn't even do it. My battery died shorlty after this episode but it stayed in my head and I just got out today. It's 1:52am Florida time. --yes still writing-- Since my job furloughed everyone, shortly after I crashed my car, and couldn't pay my rent in West Chicago suburbs I had to move into a small as trailer. I was doing really well with my career in solar and Illinois Power Authority shut down our business at the end of March as well as nationwide. Just prior to that I had totaled my car for the 3rd time in a year and decided to stop driving for the safety of myself and everyone else. I flew out of Chicago Midway Airport on March 20, 2020 coincidentally the same day they announced they were shutting down flights and have been in Florida ever since in a tiny room. I had planned on being here for just 2 weeks for a brief vacation and it's July 2nd, 2020 as I write this so it's been well over 3 months now. Alcoholism and addictions sucks. It's hard to explain to a non-alcoholic/addict how it's not so easy to just stop drinking without help. Mental health has been a battle for me and I say battle because I don't let it define me but its something I have to actively work to fight against. I just want to feel like a "normal person" without having to take something. I think we live in this age of anxiety and so many rappers and artists promote drugs because it's real to try to fight pain with substances but it's not cool to me. With Covid AA meetings are now online Zoom video chats and its not the same as meeting with people in person. I Its really interesting to hear how Flocka has changed, the values he's teaching his daughter and instilling in his artists. I remember how revolutionary his sound was and wondered whatever happened to him. His sound was so different at the time and really underrated in terms of how it evolved the genre. I think that depression he spoke about with artists who are hot for a few years and then fall off has got to be devastating but depression I feel is such a silent war of our time. Society wants us to be stoic and tough everything out and it's really hard for a lot of people to talk about their emotions and afflictions.
